There is a article in woman's health magazine this month on orienteering. There is a big picture of Hillary, Samantha, and Povlina (truly sorry if i spelt that wrong) in the sprint finals at Hickory Run that my dad took. They also talk about some of the clubs in the US, as well as what you should wear and a story of someone trying a course. I think it is great that we are getting articles in magazines like this!

Is that article online, or can someone perhaps scan it? I went to the Woman's Health mag online site and found this article, which is appeared in March 07 but is apparently completely different than the one you've mentioned...

Oh, nevermind, all the "related articles" on the bottom are about orienteering, and I think that covers what you're talking about. Threw me off because they're all about "scavenger hunts".

that article is actually the main one and then there are other photos and little things said. I will try and scan it latter once i'm done my homework.

I'll have to head out and buy the magazine :) Who put the story in?

So they call it a high speed scavenger hunt... We've been called worse, and it is MAINSTREAM exposure. Nice work!

Who put the story in?

The author is Stephanie Powell. I don't think she's an "official" member of RMOC, but she turns up at some of our meets.

WOW -- what great exposure! I just found a copy of the magazine. The article is highlighted with a photo in the TOC, and it gets several pages at the front of the magazine.

They even managed to make the model look sporty and stylish in her orienteering garb...not geeky.

I posted a copy of the article in the RMOC document repository. I'm only going to leave it there for about 24 hours, unless the author gives permission for us to keep it posted.

p.s. The article also features some of Swampfox's handiwork: the White Ranch map near Golden, CO.

I'll bet he never expected to be published in a magazine with a bikini-clad woman on the cover...

Can't say I care for the article, but the pictures are great!
I just sent for a free trial membership of this magazine, before I knew about this article. Now I guess I'll have to buy the issue since I'm sure I won't get it as part of my subscription.

Yeah, some of their terminology is a little off (the part under "O words").

And, I don't think ducking and hiding from other runners is part of a real orienteer's repertoire.

But it's good exposure to a big audience...

I may not duck & hide, but I've been known to pretend I'm still looking for a control when a competitor spots me on the way out...

There is also a nice little article in Liberty Sports Magazine, authored by our own Acampbell.
