Well it certainly seemed like 36, the number of times you asked me to stuff your dirty wrappers into your back side pocket.

interesting stuff tim; sounds like you've found a good formula for fuelling a sustained effort on the longer, endurance based events; do you think it would work over a marathon, where perhaps the running is a touch more intense and you probably wouldn't want to be carrying much.

i guess my question more accurately is, if you were to run a marathon now, would you take caballo cakes or gels?

Good question there Ben, one which I have been pondering recently as I may well enter myself in a marathon in December.

I wouldn't take the horse cake. Too much time with the mouth full chewing and as you say, the running is more intense and you need the airways open without the risk of bits of food being sucked into the pipes.

I think I'd possibly take some form of the bean/avocado burrito as that slips down quicker and easier, but I'd defo take the chia seeds. I'd do like the Tarahumara do and drink the seeds with water. But yes I'd probably take one or two gels as a backup!

P.S. If you'd like some caballo cake for any endurance exercise you may be getting up to in spain, I'd be happy to make you some. Best not tell the locals it's called caballo cake though. Neigh ;o)
