How much O' is going on that weekend?
According to various sources, I can run a Sprint Series Final, a Blue, a Mega-control Event, a Couple's Cup, and a Vampire-O'. And that's just on Saturday!

(I presume the Mega is on Sunday, but UNO says something about Saturday...)

The Mega is on Sunday (info in the UNO flyer is being fixed).

If you have some time on your hands, you can also go canoe orienteering.

The latest standings, with Viktoria moving into the lead. But moving up is Katarina Smith....

The Couple's Cup is based on results from the regular courses. Don't know whether there would be time enough to do a regular Blue in addition to the Sprint tourney. But a completely reasonable approach would be Canoe-O and Sprint on Saturday, Vampire-O Saturday night, and the Mega on Sunday.

Note that the "regular" courses (on both days) will be composed of selected controls from the Mega (and maybe the Sprints, I'm not sure). Although the legs will obviously be very different.

What's the current minimum number of controls for the Mega?
Jul 13, 2005 1:31 PM #
jjcote:
The current leader that I'm aware of is the 154 at Fontainebleau near Paris (late April or early May). The Mega will probably have 200 controls, but that number isn't firm.

Mr. McClellan, can you comment at all on the rumor that all the controls will have as their clue "Boulder" ?

:-)

Absolutely not. While there are certainly enough boulders at Pawtuckaway for such a scheme, you can instead expect the opposite, a wide variety of control descriptions. In fact, one such bit of variety has been enabled by a recent... well, you'll have to wait and find out.

A recent fodder rack building frenzy? A fodder rack filled with CHEESEBURGERS?!?!

course design-visiting potential sites at Pawtuckaway is much influenced by relative mosquito density - fortunately for competitors (September's, in particular), this is a moot point...

An obscure hint: the number 5984485994 is involved.

I didn't make the phone call, but apparently that number is in Minas, Uruguay. Ahah. Minas is a mine. There has been some recent mining activity...

The latest standings. And William has got the courses pretty much all set and they look terrific.

Course setting for the sprint series finals has actually been a international team effort, with Matthias Mahr making a guest international return to his CSU roots. Let's just say that the spectating will be spectacular, and the orienteering fast and exciting. Now you just need to sign up to come. And don't forget to book a camp site soon if you want to camp at Pawtuckaway - check out the camping weekend flier for details.

I should add that although there are mosquitos in the forest, they're already not too frequent in the camping areas and open areas. By September it's looking good.

The latest standings, up to date despite the fact that Boris is in Kyoto and the Commissioner is in Edmonton!

Entries are already coming in for the finals and the Mega. Deadline is September 3.

Model map for the WOC sprint. And some said the sprint I set at West Point was hilly. Sure looks like you don't want to make any mistakes.

Remember, it's 2.5 m contours.

I wonder how green that green is. Do they have thorns?

I'm pretty sure the green is Wasabi.

The honorable flying Pigs and Piglets must feel at home... mmm... wasabi-spiced pork.
