With the 2007 US Relay Championships about six months away, and with me still remembering the wirebrushing OCIN took over the relay rules last year, I was wondering if this year's hosts are considering any tweaks to the relay rules...

No, it will be the same 4/8/12 point system. By the time USOF got around to approving the bid, it seemed way too late in the game to open up that can of worms.

It will, of course, be a very excellent weekend, with Joe B setting the sprint courses on Saturday and PG the relay courses on Sunday, another fine WCOC event under George and Lyn's leadership.

I'm sure it's going to be an excellent weekend. Last year's Sprint Series Final was just amazing.

I certainly respect the decision to keep the rules the same, but I'm a little disappointed (not at WCOC) that the topic of Relay Rules hasn't been a bigger topic. Last year I sensed widespread dissatisfaction with the rules, independent of the specific issue of announcing it too close to the event.

The meet website says "point system under review and to be announced soon." Given Peter's comments above, could we just go ahead and announce it? I'm looking forward to the weekend and want to make sure I get a team together this year.

Relay rules 34.5.2 and 34.5.3 were ammended and approved by the BOD, Nov 11, 2006. Minutes here. The 6-month deadline passed last weekend. Thank god for wirebrushes.

Eddie--did you just pass through a wormhole or something?

As Peter says above, the point system will be unchanged from prior years. We had been waiting for USOF approval of the bid to open up a discussion. Apparently the approval occurred and was posted to some secret sites along the way. When we did find references that the bid was approved, it did seem too late to change. Interestingly, we, WCOC, have yet to receive notice that the bid was accepted.
