Attackpoint - performance and training tools for orienteering athletes

Discussion: Yökuppi 2013 - only by the night

in: Orienteering; General

Apr 17, 2013 6:45 AM #
Hirppa:
Yökuppi's 12th season is about to start tonight. Because the spring is ca. a month late at the moment, at least the first event will be a sprint inside an army base. Thus not sure will there be a tracking (Jagge can comment on that).

Schedule (mostly GMT+3, except few events in Oct)

Tune in for tracking here.

yep, haven't got map/courses yet, but there is stil time. And I'll use my imagination if haven't got anything by 8pm.

Yö-koo-ppi, Yö-KOO-ppi, Yö-koo-ppi,

but you can win her yet

Jagge:
Here we go. Map is, well, let's just say dots will not hit some controls too well.
Apr 17, 2013 6:45 PM #
eddie:
Yippeee! Go Timo, Go!
Apr 17, 2013 6:48 PM #
eddie:
What's that skinny track-looking thing by control 6?
Apr 17, 2013 6:50 PM #
Jagge:
Military Pentathlon Obstacle Run track.

Apr 17, 2013 6:57 PM #
eddie:
Oooh, cool. I had to look up what an "Irish Table" obstacle is.
Apr 17, 2013 6:58 PM #
Jagge:
Hirppa shows up only every now and then. cell network isn't working properly.
Apr 17, 2013 7:00 PM #
eddie:
Maybe the students are jamming his signal.
Apr 17, 2013 7:05 PM #
Jagge:
Or he is running really fast and cell towers just can't understand his signal for redshift.
Apr 17, 2013 7:07 PM #
eddie:
The Hirppsenberg Uncertainty principle. We can't know both his position and velocity at the same time.
Apr 17, 2013 7:22 PM #
Jagge:
Apr 24, 2013 5:03 PM #
Hirppa:
You got it right eddie. I didn't know my position if I had any velocity at the same time.

Today it's back to the nature. Forest that is. Mass start and there should be 4-5 people to track.
Apr 24, 2013 6:08 PM #
eddie:
20 mins to the start!
Apr 24, 2013 6:27 PM #
eddie:
Map is posted - everyone still milling about near the finish.
Apr 24, 2013 6:29 PM #
Pink Socks:
I like how Attackpoint now has the # minutes ago feature. 19 minutes ago, Eddie posted "20 minutes to the start", and I don't have to wonder if he wrote that hours ago.

eddie:
BANG! They're off!!

C'mon Kimmo - go get 'em!
Apr 24, 2013 6:52 PM #
eddie:
Good Grief! Aleksi's wearing a jet pack or something.
Apr 24, 2013 7:02 PM #
eddie:
dogleg to 7 on Aleksi's forking. Big advantage with the line of lights heading back out?
Apr 24, 2013 7:04 PM #
eddie:
Kimmo, Kimmo, wherefore art thou, Kimmo?
Apr 24, 2013 7:05 PM #
eddie:
Look at the split on 7-8. This is awesome. 4 mins/k on the road vs 6:20 in the marsh.
Apr 24, 2013 7:12 PM #
eddie:
Climbing over the spur on the road made it slower. If the road was flat the whole way the two options would have been even.
Apr 24, 2013 7:18 PM #
Jagge:
I can't see Hirppa so he must be mdoing well (or is at least moving).
Apr 24, 2013 7:21 PM #
Pellervo:
He's been there, time to time. ..

edit: approaching 8 right now.
Apr 24, 2013 7:31 PM #
eddie:
Timo a couple of hundred meters back of Aleksi now. Can he make it up before the end? Whoa, Aleksi's track a little warped at the end there. Must've been a solar flare or something.
Apr 24, 2013 7:34 PM #
Pellervo:
Was there some gps problem with Aleksi or did he mispunch?
Apr 24, 2013 7:35 PM #
Jagge:
Aleksi (and his group?) took wrong control, second last. There is C and D course's control there, the cliff. DQ.
Apr 24, 2013 7:38 PM #
eddie:
Ahhh! Doh!
Apr 24, 2013 7:38 PM #
Jagge:
Funny, that was his 4th visit to that control, one would think he would have noticed the place did not look the same.
Apr 24, 2013 7:42 PM #
eddie:
His tracking was perfect for the entire race, so seemed odd to be that far off just at the end. Now we know. Timo's track was off at 5, 12 and 14 - to the SE in all cases. Maybe his sats were all NW and his antenna is low on his back?
Apr 24, 2013 7:47 PM #
eddie:
Kimmo sighted at 13.
Apr 24, 2013 7:48 PM #
Jagge:
Some poorer gpses are just behind, sometimes more, sometimes less, and kind of short cuts every time you make turn. That effect would give about the style of track Assu has.
Apr 24, 2013 7:50 PM #
eddie:
Kimmo's having a good run tonight.
Apr 24, 2013 7:54 PM #
Jagge:
Yes. Every time we see a glimpse of Hirppa he is moving at somewhat sensible direction. It has not always been like that, you know :)
Apr 24, 2013 7:55 PM #
eddie:
Aleksi slowed down quite a bit coming into that control. I thought the GPS track was just bunching up or he had lost contact.
Apr 24, 2013 8:06 PM #
eddie:
Very entertaining race today. Thanks! I guess I should do some work now.
Apr 24, 2013 9:18 PM #
ndobbs:
You woulda found me entertaining today... had I not been in some other woods an hour away. I hear there might be more snow up where Yökuppi was. In Lohja there was some, but not enough to be bothersome.

Is eddie the only online follower of Yökuppi in the entire world?
Apr 25, 2013 12:31 AM #
Pink Socks:
I've followed before. I tried today, but my work machine doesn't like Java anymore.
Apr 25, 2013 2:16 AM #
eddie:
I had java problems last week too. An update seems to have fixed it.

I was interviewed for a Finnish O-mag article last year regarding my un-natural interest in Yökuppi. Someday I hope to make an in-person appearance at an event. Will have to come up with a Superfan outfit of some kind. Tin foil hat, cape, the works. Or maybe a fur coat:

Apr 25, 2013 5:17 AM #
Hirppa:
Ndobbs - the forest was surprisingly snowfree. I took maybe 20 steps in snow on the way.

And eddie - the time you come to run Yökuppi, that race will be promoted: Yökuppi feat. eddie and the fur coat.

Apparently Aleksi (All-in) did punch the right control and won the whole race. So it was just a shift.

I don't know what's wrong with my tracking devices at the moment (same problem a week ago) but hopefully it'll be fixed for next week when it's the last one of the spring season.
May 1, 2013 3:04 PM #
Hirppa:
Bought myself a new prepaid card for the tracking phone. Hopefully that would solve the problem.

In about 4 h, last start before September. Mass start again.

Awesome start. Equal split on the route choice among the radioheads.
May 1, 2013 7:16 PM #
eddie:
Well, Kimmo, we tracked you to the end of the parking lot at the start :).

Maybe the Loch Kallio monster ate him.
May 1, 2013 7:20 PM #
Jagge:
Hirppa spotted, leg #3. So it works as usual.
May 1, 2013 7:20 PM #
eddie:
Aleksi and Kristian seem to be tied together with a string. Maybe they are running it as a 3-legged race.
May 1, 2013 7:21 PM #
pietro:
Is there more detailed information about Timo`s eye?
May 1, 2013 7:22 PM #
Pink Socks:

pietro:
My Javani not load, so I'm dependent on your conversation. Who is ahead in the race?
May 1, 2013 7:25 PM #
eddie:
Leaders have made a small mistake. C'mon Kimmo, you can get 'em!
May 1, 2013 7:27 PM #
eddie:
Aleksi&Kristian. They seem to be sharing a single GPS unit :) They are out in front of Kimmo and Seppo by about 300m.
May 1, 2013 7:31 PM #
eddie:
Kimmo just sank into the marsh.
May 1, 2013 7:34 PM #
Jagge:
(That may not be Kristian, could also be someone with Kristian's gps, like Mikko R)
May 1, 2013 7:41 PM #
eddie:
Aleksi and "Kristian" split widely now. I thought "K" would take that indistinct path the whole way. Maybe he missed the junction? Now looks like they are both headed for #11 instead of #9
May 1, 2013 7:42 PM #
eddie:
The strong nuclear force has overwhelmed the electroweak and they are back together again. I think a photon and a neutrino were emitted.
May 1, 2013 7:46 PM #
eddie:
It'll be a footrace to the finish.
May 1, 2013 7:47 PM #
eddie:
Geez - they'll be sub 3/k on this road!
May 1, 2013 7:49 PM #
eddie:
Aleksi with the win. Kimmo is back on-screen, having another good race this week!
May 1, 2013 7:51 PM #
eddie:
Now he's using his cloaking device to sneak past the competition on the road run.
May 1, 2013 7:58 PM #
Jagge:
Hirppa, try setting your device to 2G only if you havent tried it yet. Maybe it is switching between 3G/2G and failing to work properly unless you stay at one place where 2G or 3g works and it does not need to switch. 2G would do just fine, you are not that fast ;)
May 1, 2013 9:04 PM #
Terkelsen:
Jagge I can tell that it was Kristian. Aleksi had troubles with his led light and he ran most of the course without light. Topi and Mikko R were 6 min faster than guys with tracking.
May 1, 2013 9:06 PM #
Hirppa:
Hirppa, try setting your device to 2G ... 2G would do just fine, you are not that fast ;)

Have to try it. Indeed I'm not that fast but apparently I'm just in such a shape that my navigating keeps up :) Nearly perfect performance.
I'll try to track tomorrow's 10mila "team spirit run" and we'll see how it goes.

There was a big debate at the finish about the leg 10-11. 5-6 people ran on the forest side, all the others on field (in Finland dotted field is forbidden). Sort of foolish from the course setter to do such a thing.
May 1, 2013 9:09 PM #
eddie:
Whoa! So cool. I guess he was with someone else when you guys split to #9? How did you just happen to come back together in the middle of the forest?
May 1, 2013 9:13 PM #
eddie:
I was wondering about the cultivated area. As far as I know its allowed in the US when there is nothing growing/planted at the time of the race, but forbidden if planted. This symbol is very rarely seen on US maps. I can only think of a few.
May 1, 2013 9:30 PM #
Hirppa:
Yeah, as far as I know, Finland is an exception in the dotted cultivated area. Many European countries have that symbol but it means that it is planted some time of the year and might not be forbidden. In Finland it's always forbidden unless proven otherwise.
2008 Halikkoviesti, Jan Prochazka (Kalevan Rasti) learned it the hard way, when he drew his route at the finish over a dotted cultivated area and with this information, organisers were forced to dsq Kalevan Rasti from the top spot.
May 1, 2013 9:39 PM #
Pink Socks:
There was some on the US Champs maps in Wisconsin, if I remember correctly. I think several of the Kansas City area maps have some, too.

For that ISSOM corn maze map that I made last fall, I could have used a lot of it. I actually think I had three legal choices for mapping the corn: 415 cultivated land (seasonally out-of-bounds), 421 impassable vegetation (forbidden, darkest green), and 528 area with forbidden access (olive green).

I ended up choosing olive green because it offered a good contrast with the network of trails, and it's the most common symbol of the three.
May 2, 2013 3:29 PM #
Jagge:
It look's like Hirppa has got the tracking working. Right now being tracked at yökuppi tracking site. The problem was bt gps and phone being at opposite sides of the body, poor connection there. Strong guy, too much muscles in between.

Must have missed it, a bit too high and overshoot. No much night training lately I guess.
Sep 4, 2013 6:50 PM #

Hapardi is now 65 secs behind Timo, if he finds 8 straight he will have clear lead.
Sep 4, 2013 6:55 PM #

Right, Hapardi in lead 3.25 ahead of Assu.
Sep 4, 2013 6:56 PM #

Sep 11, 2013 6:35 AM #

Neil has caught up Jagge again.
Sep 11, 2013 6:15 PM #
Terkelsen:
Mistake in the leading group?
Sep 11, 2013 6:16 PM #
eddie:
Yeah, Tatu was really tearing it up at the beginning there. He had 1:30 on everyone at 8, but...
Sep 11, 2013 6:18 PM #
eddie:
Yeah perhaps. That's a wide swing right on 9. Kimmo started out the same way but was not with that same group. Not quite sure what the parallel distraction would be on that line.
Sep 11, 2013 6:19 PM #
eddie:
Uh oh, Neil. He thinks he's S of 15.
Sep 11, 2013 6:20 PM #
Terkelsen:
Neil missed cp 15?
Sep 11, 2013 6:22 PM #
eddie:
And now Jagge is opening the door at 16. Gotta hit those ditches or its a no-mands land of dark, featureless marsh.
Sep 11, 2013 6:27 PM #
eddie:
Tatu short on 14. Will our boy Kimmo catch him?!?
Sep 11, 2013 7:05 PM #
eddie:
Tatu and Kimmo both executed 16 well.
Sep 11, 2013 7:06 PM #
Jagge:
i never saw any ditches. Maybe there used to be 10 years ago...
Sep 11, 2013 7:18 PM #
eddie:
I always have trouble seeing those marsh ditches even in the daytime. I was trying to think if there are any US maps with manmade marsh drainage ditches. Can't think of any.
Sep 11, 2013 7:57 PM #
ndobbs:
Well, if I wasn't entertaining tonight, there's no hope for me...
Sep 11, 2013 8:26 PM #
Hirppa:
It all started to go wrong when I steadily narrowed the gap to Neil on the way to #4 but decided to follow Turskis instead (to the marsh). Then it took to #16 to get on that 7 year ols map / 1:5000. At least I was entertaining again :)
Sep 11, 2013 8:39 PM #
Jagge:
Now when I see our track to #15 it makes sense. The trail we were running is not on the map and it's not the mapped one as I thought. Makes sense, thats why I was suddenly 100 meters right and did hit path instead of control. Tapsa was leading, and ndobbs following him and I was following them both, I should have known it will not end up well.
Sep 11, 2013 8:46 PM #
ndobbs:
I decided to not follow Tapsa, which I should have known would not end up well.
Sep 11, 2013 9:45 PM #
eddie:
Who is this mysterious Tapsa of which you speak? Perhaps he should be tracked next week.
Sep 12, 2013 12:09 AM #
jjcote:
Beech Hill, Gardner, MA

But there's no reason for anyone to go where the ditches are.
Sep 12, 2013 1:21 AM #
ken:
...unless they are on their way across the tracks to Baldwin hill.
Sep 12, 2013 1:43 AM #
jjcote:
Subtle. :-) (In the winter, you can take the tunnel once the water freezes. But that doesn't happen in July.)
Sep 12, 2013 3:47 AM #
Hirppa:
I believe they are talking about this guy. A club mate of Neil's. And this was one of the first times he's been to yökuppi so wouldn't count on him coming back next week.
Sep 18, 2013 5:08 PM #
Hirppa:
10mn to start (individual). Light drizzle makes it perfect for night-o (but maybe not for satellite connection).
Sep 18, 2013 5:33 PM #
eddie:
Tracking looks ok. Climb that hill, Kimmo! Climb like the wind!
Sep 18, 2013 5:37 PM #
Jagge:
Hopefully no-one breaks bones coming down from #10. I barely dared to climb down that slope last sunday - dry consitions and in daylight and after gathering courage for a minute. Now it's dark and it's raining.
Sep 18, 2013 5:41 PM #
eddie:
I meant to ask about that cliff SE of #10. It appears to be running along a reentrant bottom. Is it some kind of knife edge, or a segment of paved road? :)
Sep 18, 2013 5:47 PM #
eddie:
Saara just climbing down now - nearly at a full stop.
Sep 18, 2013 5:50 PM #
Jagge:
Late is next. No problem.
Sep 18, 2013 5:51 PM #
eddie:
Yeah, looks like he jumped from the top without even looking.
Sep 18, 2013 5:54 PM #
Jagge:
These runners were there last sunday, so they may know the place. And half of the controls, those are mostly same to.
Sep 18, 2013 5:55 PM #
eddie:
Jump, Kimmo, Jump!!!
Sep 18, 2013 6:57 PM #
Hirppa:
I didn't jump.. And lost couple of good backs there. I just saw my becoming swiss training camp crumbling when I saw where Tatu and Kristian went down. And as Jagge said, I knew the place from Jagge's log but darkness and wetness made it still quite interesting.
Sep 18, 2013 7:36 PM #

Less than 5 h to the start. It's district champs with special guest stars such as M. Kauppi. Way over hundred lightheads. Some of the usual trackees (can you say like that..?) are offline since they are organising this event, but replacements should be almost on the same level ;)
Like:
Minna K - One 2nd place in winter version of Yökuppi (Korttelikuppi)
Marttiina J - Finnish rankin 14th
Aleksi A - JWOC middle 4th 2013

Whoa, guest stars! Will the other M21s be wearing a wire tonight? The usual suspects like Tatu, Tomi and Lauri? Looks like Saara is running again this week after the slip'n'slide down from #10 last week. I'd love to see more Trekkies. What's the largest number of tracking victims we've had for a Yökuppi race?

And poor Jagge...Mr. "is that a cell phone on your ass" himself...relegated to "other" :)
Sep 25, 2013 2:47 PM #
bubo:
Maybe it´s time to add the term "Trackies" to Wikipedia?

It's actually Saara or Tatu cause we don't have devices to both. Which one you prefer? Saara is the only one who can chalenge Minna and Marttiina but Tatu is the cup leader on A-course. Women will run B-course.
It's nice +2 centigrade here...
Sep 25, 2013 5:10 PM #
eddie:
Tatu it is! The leader of the cup. People are milling about the finish. The excitement is palpable. I even saw a blimp over downtown Baltimore on my way in this morning. Yökuppi Fever - Catch it!
Sep 25, 2013 5:17 PM #
eddie:
Tatu is in 'da houuuuse!! I mean, on the course.
Sep 25, 2013 5:38 PM #
eddie:
Minna takes it to the bridge!
Sep 25, 2013 5:50 PM #
eddie:
Will Tatu reel Aleksi back in? Go-head be gone with it!
Sep 25, 2013 5:55 PM #
eddie:
Whoa, Jagge with the waaaay left route on 7 - nearly bested Tatu on the leg - 6:06 vs 6:04. Aleksi 7:48. Take it to the bridge!
Sep 25, 2013 6:05 PM #
eddie:
Am I talking to myself?
Sep 25, 2013 6:31 PM #
eddie:
yes.
Sep 25, 2013 9:03 PM #
Hirppa:
Sorry eddie I couldn't give you back up. I was in the forest with camera.
And also sorry for the fact that two tracking devices didn't make it to the forest. Jarno and Marttiina arrived 15min before their start.
Car's windows and roof were totally frozen when leaving home. Two months too early...
Sep 25, 2013 9:53 PM #
eddie:
No worries, its all good. I really did see a blimp over Baltimore today. And best of all Oracle USA pulled off the upset in the Americas Cup!!

Credit where credit is due but I wanted the down under dog to win.

It was two down-under crews racing.

#7 I had to go off the map.
http://iso-henna.com/doma/show_map.php?user=Jagge&...
damn, that thick black line wasn't an extra wide road.
Sep 26, 2013 7:12 AM #
Hirppa:
Some pics from yesterday. I even put some names to those I recognised.
Oct 2, 2013 2:54 PM #
Jagge:
2 hours to go. I forgot to ask map and they forgot to send it, so tracking map will be a bit ghetto. I should get map as a smartphone photo (MMS message I guess) and I'll improvise from there on.
Oct 2, 2013 4:03 PM #
Hirppa:
The only time for a long time that I'm able to watch tracking (from Switzerland) and the map is ghetto... :/ Hope you get it working!
Oct 2, 2013 4:20 PM #
Jagge:
Map is up.
Oct 2, 2013 4:30 PM #
eddie:
Hump DAAAAYYYYY!!!!
Oct 2, 2013 4:31 PM #

By the way, nice photos last week Kimmo. I especially liked the ones with the stars.
Oct 2, 2013 4:33 PM #

Hmm, not much trail running tonight. Is it raining? :)
Oct 2, 2013 4:35 PM #
Tuxi:
Nice route today! Wheather is nice in Orimattila (about 30 min from Yokuppi place).
Oct 2, 2013 4:36 PM #
Tuxi:
Greetings to Switzerland Hirppa! New o-country? Soon you will get two more......:)
Oct 2, 2013 4:58 PM #
Hirppa:
Like always Juha and Kristian find themselves in the forest.
Tuxi, not a new one. Visited it already 2 months ago.
Oct 2, 2013 4:58 PM #
eddie:
How 'bout that Kristian, wide left to the track on 2? Fastest by over a minute on the other two.
Oct 2, 2013 5:15 PM #
eddie:
Uh oh. Where is Juha heading?
Oct 2, 2013 7:09 PM #
Jagge:
Nice to see it worked well enough, I was dark foot o-ing (is that right term?) elsewhere and could not watch. Map was combination of 2 months old middle race map scan by Hapardi and course photo I got as MMS message, that calibrated using Terkelsen's gps track downloaded from AP.
Oct 9, 2013 2:48 PM #
Hirppa:
In a bit over hour it's on again (individual). All the tracking euipment are in my posession and I'm still at home. So hopefully I'll manage to find some victims in time.
Fast terrain with long legs.
Oct 9, 2013 4:08 PM #
eddie:
Whoa, cool terrain!
Oct 9, 2013 4:27 PM #

There is B course runners but no B course on map...

Go Kimmo go. Greetings from Esbjerg, Denmark.

Pretty much everyone is lost, except Hirvonen bros.
Oct 9, 2013 4:48 PM #
Jagge:
No, Juha Hi can't be right, for sure he is not runing since he is the course setter.
Oct 9, 2013 4:49 PM #
Terkelsen:
Juha Hi is organizing this event. Not running I suppose. Maybe he paid someone to run on his name :).
Oct 9, 2013 4:51 PM #
Jagge:
Assu DNF. Must be some kind of injury, hopefully not bad.
Oct 9, 2013 4:54 PM #
Jagge:
Now I don't understand. Assu makes comeback !? He must have helped someone injured or with flat battery out of the forest. Or something.
Oct 9, 2013 4:55 PM #
Terkelsen:
Intresting.
Oct 9, 2013 5:07 PM #
eddie:
Yikes. Some pretty wild loops going on around #1.Which one is Assu? I saw Jukka go out before the start and then seemed to return, only to go out again later. Poor guy. Nightmare at #1.
Oct 9, 2013 5:10 PM #
eddie:
There must be people everywhere around #1. A headlamp in every depression.

Looks like fun...in the daytime :)
Oct 9, 2013 6:08 PM #
Assu:
Assu is not DNF. And Assu didn't help anybody. Assu just don't know how to orienteer.
Oct 9, 2013 7:08 PM #
Hirppa:
A-course results page tells quite a bit:
http://www.yokuppi.net/valiajat.php?kisa_id=257
Apparently I didn't change one ID: Juha Hi -> Aleksi = All-in
Oct 9, 2013 7:33 PM #

I'm sure some quite entertaining routes will come out here:

Sorry guys. Forgot All the tracking equipment home... Just when it's difficult terrain and Minna attending...
Oct 16, 2013 4:17 PM #
Jagge:
Well, tracking map and courses are up anyway.
Oct 16, 2013 4:52 PM #
eddie:
Rats.
Oct 16, 2013 5:42 PM #
Hirppa:
Guess would it have been a great tracking.. Minna left about 10min after me and we left maybe 15min after my finish towards home. At that point we heard that she had asked atleast from two people where she was..
Oct 23, 2013 3:08 PM #
Hirppa:
In about 1h it's mass start time. And this time I didn't have so hectic start from home so I even have equipment with.
Oct 23, 2013 3:12 PM #

Oct 23, 2013 4:22 PM #
Jagge:
late with posting map, but better late than never.
Oct 23, 2013 5:24 PM #
eddie:
ooh, another fun looking area. I missed the live race this morning (cat to the vet). I should know not to make appointments on Wednesdays by now. Still nice to have the tracks afterwards. Looks like Kimmo had a good race - only one small mistake?
Oct 23, 2013 7:56 PM #
Hirppa:
Well not exactly. You can't see my hesitant navigating from the gps-line. And 4-5 mins of pure mistakes. Though in that kind of a terrain it might be average to me :)
Oct 30, 2013 1:33 PM #
Hirppa:
Tonight the 2013 Grande Finale as a short rogaining at 18:00 (3 ½ h from now). An immense ammount of starters (117). A-course (most likely all the trackies) is 90 min and a hefty 5p penalty for every 1min you're late from the finish. That's something close to a average points you get from one control (if the tracking map has codes: 37 -> 3p, 127 -> 12p). So I guess that's at least something that keeps you entertained with the help of the split feature.
Oct 30, 2013 1:52 PM #
eddie:
Excellent! High noon start here on the US East coast.

Run long and prosper!
Oct 30, 2013 2:31 PM #
Terkelsen:
As kind of tradition start will be broadcasted live

Oct 30, 2013 2:49 PM #
eddie:
Is this live right now - you walking to the start? Remember to turn it off if you stop at the toilet on the way :)
Oct 30, 2013 3:23 PM #
Hirppa:
The real number seems to be close to 130. Jagge has been reached from Helsinki ring road so let's see will there be map in time this time.
Oct 30, 2013 3:44 PM #
ken:
looks like the map is up.
Oct 30, 2013 3:50 PM #
Jagge:
SW corner of the map may not be that well aligned with the gps data, but I think it will do. Not a lidar based map you know.
Oct 30, 2013 3:56 PM #
ken:
which way first? maybe 39 if you can get them all.
Oct 30, 2013 3:59 PM #
Hirppa:
Start delayed maybe 15min.
Oct 30, 2013 4:00 PM #
A.Le Coq:
West first! 205 will give you 20 pts, 39 3 pts etc.
Oct 30, 2013 4:05 PM #
eddie:
roads to 213 first, the sweep them all. Finish 210->40->in.

Oct 30, 2013 4:11 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Yes, that was Kimmo.
Oct 30, 2013 4:11 PM #
eddie:
Or maybe just a groan.
Oct 30, 2013 4:12 PM #
eddie:
I'm loving it though. Did the thermometer say 2C?
Oct 30, 2013 4:16 PM #
Jagge:
Will Terkelsen run with the camera?
Oct 30, 2013 4:16 PM #
eddie:
I've actually got Ayreon mixed over the audio feed.
One minute!!
Oct 30, 2013 4:20 PM #
eddie:
Switching to Nightwish now :) Seems more appropriate.
Tarja is awesome!
Oct 30, 2013 4:22 PM #
A.Le Coq:
I was right, they are aiming to the NW side first.
Oct 30, 2013 4:24 PM #
ken:
eddie, your job now is to do the live scoring for trackies. did Tatu skip 40?
Oct 30, 2013 4:27 PM #
eddie:
Wow, yeah. Looks like he did.
Oct 30, 2013 4:33 PM #
eddie:
My officemate just indicated that I need a shower. I didn't want to miss the start after running in...
Oct 30, 2013 4:35 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Timo 63 pts, and now he is going to the hill picking 10 pts on the way.
Oct 30, 2013 4:38 PM #
ken:
Good thing Terkelsen turned off the camera, we could hear him swearing right now.
Oct 30, 2013 4:45 PM #
Jagge:
He is writing something.
Oct 30, 2013 4:45 PM #
eddie:
Ooof.
Oct 30, 2013 4:46 PM #
eddie:
Is it in Finnish?
Oct 30, 2013 4:47 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Timo is almost at top. The scenery near 205 was like this, two weeks ago https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-...
Now it is pitch-black.
Oct 30, 2013 4:50 PM #
eddie:
Are those the Lahti ski jumps in the NW corner? If so, I've been there - waaay back in 2000. I wasn't racing that day though. Just eating blaubeer in the forest.
Oct 30, 2013 4:52 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Eddie, you find the ski centre and ski jumps at the East side.
Oct 30, 2013 4:53 PM #
Jagge:
yes. jumping hills at E corner.
Oct 30, 2013 4:55 PM #
eddie:
Oh, yes, there they are! Yes, I was picking berries near 212 :) Then we went out for pizza at Rax Pizza Buffet in town. I think I ate my way through the WC that year.
Oct 30, 2013 5:00 PM #
eddie:
Nice, Kristian! What an honor (sniff)
Oct 30, 2013 5:03 PM #
Jagge:
Right, thats "HI EDDIE" :)
Oct 30, 2013 5:03 PM #
ken:
Ha, I thought maybe that's what he was up to after I caught D-I-E at the end. do you have more than 2 minute tail somehow? (nevermind, now I remember)
Oct 30, 2013 5:04 PM #
Jagge:
tick that square in front of kristian at top right corner.
Oct 30, 2013 5:09 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Scores just now: Timo 158, Tatu 136, Teemu 133, Kimmo and Harri 120.
Oct 30, 2013 5:09 PM #
Jagge:
terkelsen has been sick lately, so no wonder he isn't racing.
Oct 30, 2013 5:12 PM #
eddie:
I'm glad someone is going to 82. We're almost at 60 mins now. Are all the trackies on the 90min course?
Oct 30, 2013 5:17 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Yes they are, I guess.
Oct 30, 2013 5:17 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Tatu left 204 and 203..
Oct 30, 2013 5:23 PM #
ken:
Looks like it will be tough for Timo to sweep in the time left.
Oct 30, 2013 5:26 PM #
eddie:
Yeah, those are some big points left behind. Not much time left for the high points on the E end.
Oct 30, 2013 5:30 PM #
eddie:
Yeah, Timo, Harri and Teemu will all sweep the NW. Someone will have to venture E to get an advantage. 36 is close enough, but someone will have to get 39. 39!!!!
Oct 30, 2013 5:33 PM #
A.Le Coq:
About 15 min left.
Oct 30, 2013 5:35 PM #
eddie:
Timo might only need 36 to win.
Oct 30, 2013 5:38 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Timo 222, Teemu 213, Kimmo 211, Harri 209, Tatu 179.
Oct 30, 2013 5:39 PM #
A.Le Coq:
10 mins!
Oct 30, 2013 5:40 PM #
eddie:
Teemu sprinting for 40. Will he make it in?
Oct 30, 2013 5:42 PM #
eddie:
Small mistake on 40. He won't have time to pick up 36.
Oct 30, 2013 5:44 PM #
A.Le Coq:
So Teemu-Kimmo will be 217-217.
Oct 30, 2013 5:45 PM #
eddie:
Kimmo with the gutsy move for 36 at the end.
Oct 30, 2013 5:47 PM #

Oct 30, 2013 8:38 PM #
eddie:
Dude! I *must* have a Yökuppi T-shirt! Does it say "Only by the night" on the back? Where can I buy one? Or maybe they're only for the series point winners? Maybe I can trade one of Spike's shirts for one. Yeah, the land-use attitudes are a bit different over here :)
Oct 30, 2013 9:15 PM #
Hirppa:
There's actually several types of Yökuppi t-shirts:
http://yokuppi.kuvat.fi/kuvat/2012-Italia/IMG_1551...
(yökuppi o-shirt, season shirts 2007-2012, and the one you linked)
Normally that white shirt has only the person's name at the back but anything can be arranged. So if you want one, I'll (we'll) make it happen :)
