Please come to our junior team fundraiser score-O. It's going to be fun; a good event to invite your adventure racing and other friends to. Please do invite as many people as you can think of. We'll have a practice course on site, and instruction. Please help advertise this event, especially outside the orienteering community. If you're coming from afar, it's a great weekend to check out Boston, and I can probably find you a place to stay.

Will there be a white course available for beginners as well? I know some people that would like to try things out but string-o would be too easy but 1 hour score-o would be too much.

Yes definitely - there is a course completely on trails (or maybe a few feet off), and it is set up so that they get instruction, and a practice walk with someone, and then they get to do a course that is just right for them.

That invitation seems to be addressed to people who are already familiar with orienteering, eg, use of the term "score-O". Was that the intent?

Score-Os often have mass starts. Is that not the case with this event?

Preregistration by Friday? Is that a requirement, an incentivized recommendation, or simply a request to help event workers. (IMO, Friday is too early a cutoff for a local Sunday event...)

Yes, that was the intent.
That is the case with this event.
You don't have to pre-register, but the cost is double on site.

I totally agree with an early pre-registration and then increased fees on the day of the event, especially for events like this one. It's a heckuva lot more work to deal with someone on the day, than to know how many people are coming. So if you really can't deal with pre-registering, just pay more, and you'll get the same experience. If you know you are coming, pre-register, and save everyone some headaches.

I did not realize this was (primarily) a team event...

Actually, I did not realize a lot of things about the event until I found this.

I'm not sure if this kind of format is more, less, or the same amount of work as a regular WYOBrGR event. I'm assuming it is intended to attract participants beyond the typical orienteering crowd. It will be interesting to see if it does -- and if the regular orienteers still show up.

If it's anything like Raid the Sanctuary last year, it's a lot more work to prepare and a lot less work on the day, assuming people pre-register.

Looks great, barb!

Didn't realize we were offering a string course. Thanks for the link, Guy.

You should be careful with "any number" (of participants in a team)... we've had 15-person troops show up. $3.33/person is sure a steal.

Raid the Sanctuary did come to mind, but that was (for the most part) not a score-O.

Are the orienteering sections of ARs usually score-O or pt2pt?

Yes
