and pull the toenail off. It will only hurt for a few seconds.

yeah - have been tempted but I have been watching it closely and I think it may only be the left top that is detached /the risk of detached whereas the rest of it just is major bruising which is now a nice bright red in the healing stage - either that or an infection is brewing and I need to get some antibiotics on it - but since its not bothering me too much I will leave it abit longer see how it plays out - the run was one of the first times its bothered me in a bit now.

Is it loose at all, or just colourful?

Top left is very slightly raised (not sure if detached or just raised) and that's the bit which is blackened. The rest of the nail is about 4 different colors :) but not that painful. So if its just top left quadrant which is potentially detached happy enough to wait and see if it will be an issue or if I can save majority of the nail.

If it's not loose/wobbly, it's unlikely you've actually snapped it - in which case it'll just be colourful for a while as it grows out. When I lose nails it's generally because it's broken somewhere under the skin, and then it's just a matter of time until it wiggles enough for the skin to let go of it. Just keep it well-trimmed (so your shoes don't press on it) and you should save it.

Yes I think it's just detached a tiny bit from nail bed no snap but that's only a small bit I believe. Yeah so I've drained it and keeping it trimmed - now it's just a waiting game to see where it goes - I'm hopeful to keep it but wouldn't be end of the world if i didnt or if when the bit I think may have detached reaches the front that comes off abit - but well see.

I didn't end up losing mine. Nobody wants to be detached from me.

MrRogaine:
Don't bother saving it, just pull it out.

If you pull it off and it stays off, it was meant to be.

Sometimes if you don't pull it off the new one grows underneath and eventually you end up with a fat munted sort of double and sometimes even a triple-layered nail which never goes back to normal until you rip the whole mess out and let it start again. Yucko.

What are you, a doctor?

Would you believe I have had marathon runners and the like pay money to see me about this sort of rubbish? Sorry, I mean, about these terrifying life-threatening issues? Don't they have online forums to go to?

Listen to the doc tRicky and rip that toenail off!! Do it!!! I am rather bored as there is nothing good on TV. So I'll settle for trying to convince people to do painful things.

Tash I already surgically removed my blisters thanks to you Nike quote inspiration - you'll have to come out with something exceptional to get me to do the same for my toenail!

Just draw Govenor Arnie on your old toenail and after you pull it off you can do your best 'I'll be baaack' Arnie impression. :P
