A quick race update.

The middle and long distance terrain and map is now officially "Griz Approved"! Yup former Canadian and North American Orienteering Champ Mark "Griz" Adams was overheard last week saying (maybe even promising) that participants will not leave disappointed "They are gonna love the terrain, maps and courses....but there will be lots of climbing" he added.

While a recent large wind storm knocked down a bunch of trees in the terrain, the forest floor is generally bare and the visibilility even now in the summer is excellent. But we are waiting for the autumn colours, more visibility and cooler temps to race in.

The middle and long distance map which is new, revised and expanded has received two thumbs up from the course planning team of Mike Waddington, Hans Fransson, Mark Adams and Patrick Saile. In short, the middle will really test technical map reading while the long will offer lots of route choice. Oh and did we mention there will be lots of climbing?

Why so much climbing? Well like next year's race in Whistler, Hamilton also has a 'mountain'! OK that mountain is really just the Niagara Escarpment that cuts through the city and the Dundas Valley and it is only 100m high but you get the point - lots of contours!

Please be reminded of our 300 participant limit for the middle and long distance races (no entry limit on the sprint race). As of July 10th the race is 50% sold out. Early bird rates apply for another three weeks.

We have added a link to Hamilton Tourism for a link to lodging and tourism opportunities. We recommend taking in a few of Hamilton's waterfalls and visiting the Fieldcote Museum in Ancaster for the War of 1812 Bicentennial "Bloody Assize" exhibit.

Bulletin #1 for the sprint and middle distance World Ranking Event was posted last week.

See you in October in Hamilton!
