were the church people angry? Was it because of all the heathens exercising on a Sunday? Or because the crowd was too happy and making noise?

Apparently they wanted to get to one of many churches that the road closures made more tortuous. Jen described old ladies shouting at her as she was not aware exactly which church they were destined for!

Nothing to do with unwed mothers then?

There were a few angry non-church goers too, but by far the most spiteful were the elderly ladies trying to get to church. I think more a function of being nervous elderly drivers who don't cope with surprises. My grandma would be just the same. Most ppl were very reasonable but understandably confused. It was an interesting insight into human psychology, a bit like volunteering for other organisations. Also the road closures were poorly thought out and completely excessive for the 300-odd runners so i kind of agreed with the frustration anyway. Looking forward to being a runner next year instead!

So it's a different sort of vobe to the 30 000 or whatever runs in Perth these days?

Can't be a City to Surf without road closures everywhere though...
