thats not so unusual. I have done many a training session where i have done cross words while running and have read maps while on normal runs.

someone told me that they do maths equations whilst running sometimes. Personally I don't think that would be a lot of fun.

I've tried doing math while running intervals and have found that it gets very difficult to multiply or find factors or what have you when you are running close to maximal effort. A good way to demonstrate to yourself that your brain absolutely does not function as well when you're running fast. Sometimes it's not as obvious to yourself while reading a map...

I have found that as a student i often perfom well after a late nite of "carbo loading", this is of course in moderation as u cant run if u cant stand although in the long run this may be counter productive to overall fitness ;)
Music i find helps me run harder than i would usualy would, rock and metal.

secret russian running drills are supposed to work well.

i do cross words when i fall or lose time on a control...
maths is way difficult while running hard... going slowly it is possible and occasionally hard to avoid :(

What are secret Russian training drills? I've seen them on a few logs but didn't want to ask, because, well, they're secret. Do they involve vodka?

Last year I was experimenting with "liquid carbs". It started out as an accident. It was hot, hot day and during lunch I could not resist glass of ice-cold "liquid carbs". Couple hours later while getting dressed for about 12 mile run I recalled consumed "liquid carbs" and I was contemplating of skipping run but I did go for a run after all. Common sense before the run was telling me that I might be facing rough going but to my surprise - I did not feel any ill effects. Even opposite - I felt like I had an extra boost.

For a month or so I was experimenting with consumption of "liquid carbs" and exercising. At the end I could not find any real evidence that "liquid carbs" would improve or slow down my athletic performance (at least for me) and I stopped experimenting.

Plus - if buy any remote chance I start winning races (yeah, right....;)) then it would not be something I could tell youngsters: "Well, kids... once you learn the proper balance and timing of liquid carb intake before races you will be able to run as fast as I do.."

Much empirical work on this sibject could be conducted this weekend in QOC-land. I urge all carb enthusiasts and scientists to consider making the trip!
