Cristina: What did Sharon do to her eye? Or did she just convert to Pastafarianism?

And I totally forget that Jeff (and John) were going to be there. What a little party!

barb: I was curious about Sharon's eye but didn't get around to asking her. Yeah, there were a number of Tucson people. Mike Wilke too.

jjcote: Nancy says that Sharon was having some kind of vision difficulties at the Billygoat, but she didn't get details. I'm assuming that the eyepatch is intended to be some sort of therapeutic device for whatever is ailing her, as opposed to being a bandage for an acute injury. If she gets a sword and parrot, then I'll be willing to go along with the FSM theory.

levitin: I spoke to Sharon at length after the Billygoat and here's what I remember. She has been suffereing from double vision since the US trials. She has clear, single vision out of each eye, but when she opens both eyes, she cannot bring the two images together. So depending on her angle to a nearby person (or tree (Yikes)), the two images could be separated by varying amounts.

There are several possible causes for this type of condition, one of which is recent trauma. Sharon didn't recall suffering any trauam; in fact, each of the possible causes seemed not terribly likely to her.

She was due to travel to Denver to see a specialist, but I don't know when.

Regarding the Billygoat, she navigated the entire event with one eye covered. Her depth perception was a bit off, but I don't think it affected her navigation or performance significantly. The good side (if there is one), is that partway through the event, she switched the patch from one eye to the other and continued without a hitch.

I wished Sharon a fast and complete recovery from this condition, and I'm sure many others feel similarly toward her.

bl: Sharon has an abducens palsy (6th cranial nerve) which affects extra-ocular muscle movement & thus focusing (double vision, hence the patch) - Google will supply all you might want to know. A number of causes, none which fit particularly well except possibly Lyme disease.

I recall JJ's 'massive double vision' description for template F9 adjustments or lack thereof. I've seen my share of those...
