I will probably be in southern France near Nice next Feb. and March. I wonder if there are any active orienteering clubs in the area, and if they hold events at that time of the year. I tried Googling France and orienteering, but most of the web sites are in French (duh!), and being an ugly American who can only speak English, was unable to figure out what was available if anything.

Looks like there's an active club in Nice. Their schedule from this spring shows a lot of events in the general area (not all in or near Nice), so I imagine the same would be true next year. Look under the "Lieu" column for location for some google mapping.

There's a "Contact" email address at the top of the main page, I'd try shooting him an email in English to see if he can give you more specific info. (And you'll probably win points if you start it with the one or two French words you might know. ;-) )

Cristina made an amazing job and I could barely add some hints.

Indeed VSAO is the club nearest to Nice and is a very good and very dynamic club as far as I know. You can tale look at other clubs here if you want:

Customarily you will find club training and local events in February (largely depends on the club) and some bigger events in March (if you can, try to get in touch with a club for the "CNE", which is a new competition in France a bit similar to the Jukola - big relay with a night start)

Thanks Christina and Simon. That was very helpful. It looks like it probably would be worthwhile to take my O gear with me.
