Wasn't there a two-leg race at Round Mountain back in '94 with a chase start for the second leg?
Yes there was. They started us with an all-out run down Round Mountain.
The courses I ran were great on paper but were somewhat spoiled for us later starters in the afternoon chase by the newly created elephant tracks determining our route choices.
