It looks like there might be an error in the junior fees for all-6 Laramie Daze...

Adults: $45 / 50 / 65 (early / reg / late)
Juniors: $30 / 45 / 50

Based on the adult pattern of $0 / +5 / +20, one would expect the regular junior fee to be $35.

@Guy -- we really weren't using a pattern when we determined prices. I think that $45 for 6 days of top notch orienteering is a pretty fair price.

Then how did you determine fees? He is questioning the price step not the actual value. Why are the price steps opposite for juniors and adults?

Consistent fees for all 6 based on the per-day fees would be (buy 5 get the 6th free)
Adults: $40 / 50 / 75 (early / reg / late)
Juniors: $30 / 40 / 50

The per-day fees are
A: 8 / 10 / 15
J: 6 / 8 / 10
the current savings from per-day
A: 3 / 10 / 25
J: 6 / 3 / 10
(or if you did want graded discounts at increments of 5 early juniors could have been 35 and save them a buck)

Maybe you should use a pattern...

The simple appropriate change would be to make junior reg fees 40

Why are you questioning why the junior fees are too low? You want them to raise them?

Clubs plan their pricing for different reasons. They may have wanted to offer a bigger discount for very early junior registration and/or a bigger penalty for very late adult registration. At least in my club, we always try to give the kids a little extra break. The $30 for 6 races is a pretty bare minimum for break-even or a subsidy of juniors.

What I'm saying, is let's not complain or be critical of how other clubs set their fees, especially when they are very low to begin with. Regardless of which step up values you use, this is still very junior friendly pricing.

I have a vague recollection of paying 40 dollars for the entire week of events as a junior back in 1998. I don't think you are keeping up with inflation very well, Daze organizers... :)

For reference, that was back when ramen noodles were 10 for a dollar (that's all I ate for the whole week). I am impressed with how cheap the fees already are, and I think the simplest and most appropriate thing is to keep the fees exactly as you would like :)

There is an incentive to sign up early! Tell all the juniors in your club to make plans now.

Again, we would be questioning the rate change in fees of the all 6 days for early/reg/late, with respect to the per-day rate and how the adult rate changes. We both suggested that the junior reg fee doesn't make sense and be should be lower (GuyO 35 and me 40 instead of the 45 listed) and could be in error.

Again, this is NOT questioning the dollar amount of fees but the odd rates that they change for deadlines.

Laramie Daze are quite unconventional in a number of details. For one, we write Laramie Daze "are" rather than Laramie Daze "is" sometimes, just because we feel like it.

When compared to the usual sort of event, some aspects of Daze may appear to be purely quirky, but a deeper look may reveal calculation behind the departure. Now, if you knew the reason you might not necessarily agree with it, but that does not mean there isn't a reason for the way we do various things.

Do we charge too little for Laramie Daze? Maybe. And so what if we charge too little for Laramie Daze? You can always relieve any possible feelings of guilt by going to other events the rest of the year and paying the normal rates, or even, if you choose, go to events which charge very high rates. That way it will all balance out, and karma will be achieved.

It is an unwavering principle that our event fees will be rock bottom. We refuse to raise prices just so that the fee schedule can look more orderly, and we will not back down on this point. You can not force us to charge more!

And if you should, for whatever quirky reason of your own, absolutely insist on paying more than we ask, then fine, we'll take it. But we won't like it. ; )

Completely OT, but I thought Swampfox might enjoy it... :-)
