Please note that we will
not be offering onsite registration at the meet or at packet pick-up.
Will there be any on site rec. courses? Trying to get a couple newbies to come out and try O.
No, there will not be any recreational courses. (I just confirmed this with our meet director and registrar. The rationale is that we don't have the volunteer resources to run everything that's required for separate rec courses.)
But there are still plenty of open start times on the official White and Yellow courses. :-)
And, three of the "official" courses do have group registration options: Grp-White, Grp-Yellow, and Grp-Orange.
We have added a US Champs Eligible column to the start list page. If you think you are eligible, but don't have a check mark in that column, it's most likely because you aren't up-to-date on your OUSA dues. Please make sure you are paid up before the Champs weekend.
...and be sure to forward your membership confirmation email to the Registrar (
Bob Ellis), so he can update your eligibility flag.
The rules that, when competitive courses were used as rec courses, prohibited posting the rec results, are GONE. So, there really is no reason to design & set a separate set of courses, if you are planning to offer recreational O at an A-event.
(This is not to suggest that RMOC could have easily had rec courses; they might have been fully aware of the rules change, but still had insufficient event staff to handle it...)
At the Bogg Mtn A meet earlier this year, we had Map Hiker classes that used the same courses as White and Yellow A meet competitors. It was easy to get OE2010 to exclude those classes from the results. I didn't know that the rule had changed. There was a little extra work at registration and epunch, and of course we needed someone to give beginner clinics. We only had a handful each day, but I think it's worth it to grow the sport.
