We chatted briefly on indyref in the summer while in Whistler and it has certainly been interesting to follow. Heck, many Canadians have been following the indyref with great interest given Quebec's two earlier referendums but the question that a lot of Canadians have been asking is whether the Yes and No side were following Canada as an example during the process?

Two interesting articles in the Globe and Mail have discussed this question and suggest that now that devomax is on the table looking to Canada might be more important now.

The article from a week ago:

I love Scotland. The geography, the scotch and the orienteering! My family and I are really looking forward to WOC next summer (and my daughter is keen to train, race, and perhaps study in Scotland as well). See you next summer though my daughter and I may visit earlier if we can find a time with many races together like the Big Weekend (if it is happening). We also have an open invite from Sarah Dunn to train with MAROC's juniors.

Interesting times indeed. With 20% more people voting "No" the issue is now safely in bed. But devo-max and English nationalism are both on the agenda.

The sad thing is that Salmond has had to resign - he's been a good First Minister. Like the globe and mail noticed: "There’s no ethnic nationalism at the heart of the Yes movement", which has been remarkable. Scotland has its share of "ethnic nationalists" the same as anywhere else, and Salmond has actively discouraged them.

Politics aside, we look forward to seeing you at WOC next year. WOC may be a bit crazy, and there isn't a Big Weekend this year, we're doing RaceTheCastles instead, but if you come over earlier you're very welcome to stay with us in Edinburgh.

Would def have come over for the Race the Castles if it were not for the Nor-Am conflict. Will let you know when we are in Scotland next. Thanks for the invite.
