Registration for the 46th Blue Hills Traverse is open! Advance registration is required, and registration closes at the end of the day on November 16.
Sign up now! Especially you, Ethan.
Oh I'll be there. Still pretty vexed about you winning the WHNO...
I will make sure each of you has a different map.....
In that case can mine be shorter?
And if folks need an incentive to make it a full weekend, come for the CSU Iltarastit on Saturday before the traverse! It'll be a peg relay, which means that everyone starts at once, but the faster you run, the further you run.
Specifically, at each "normal" control, there are a number of streamers, where the number of streamers is less than the number of runners. If you get to the control and there is a streamer hanging from it, that means you have to run a "bonus" loop, which is on your map. If there aren't any streamers left, you just go straight to the next "normal" control. The bonus loops end at the same next normal control, so it is very likely that you will keep seeing the same people over and over. The idea is to keep the race tight, regardless of how fast you run!
This sort of exercise is much more fun with more people, which means you should come. The loop of just the normal controls is going to be ~3km, and if you hit all the streamers, you may run 8-10km. Perfect little tune-up before the Traverse!
See you there!
Fun trivia fact: I'm pretty sure this is not the 46th Blue Hills Traverse. I just made a number up in my initial announcement. This may be the 41st +/- 2 or something. I will leave it to better qualified historians to delve into the annals of orienteering lore.
But you should all come.
Is the normal meet alongside entry on the day? My presence is unlikely but possible...
Yes, there is a standard set of courses (White - Green) available on the day of the event.
Registration extended to Nov. 18.
New swag this year, new course design.....and longer.
Ian, you are corretc; i.e. wrong. It's the 42nd running. NEOC was formed in 1972 and then the 1st BH Traverse was organized 1973 by charter member George Atkinson.
Traverse results up, no splits yet.
