I have registered for this event, but other than dates and a description of the format the details are pretty non existent. I am trying to plan my visit with other activities, but the lack of information is preventing this. Where can I find more details on the times and locations for the various sprints.
Any help would be appreciated.

John, the situation is this: We are not allowed to publish the details until permits are in hand, and the permitting parties are very slow. We are not the only entity affected by the problem, many trail runs are in the same boat. Our orienteering club stopped using some of these venues with permitting situation being one of the main issues.

It is now safe to release the details about Stages One through Three, which includes the Middle. All Sprints, except Stage One, will be within the City of San Francisco, which is about 11 km × 11 km. Stage One is at Point Bonita, Battery Alexander. Stages Two and Three are at Land's End, Sutro Heights Park parking. This information, along with maps and venue/course designer's notes, will be online very shortly, certainly before the end of this week. Locations for Stages Four and Five are probably not safe to publish yet, but the list of embargoed venues includes them.

The schedule information on the website is exhaustive. It was given as a link to last year's event, from which there are no changes, and I have also copied the information to this year's event's page.

Also, there was a mistake I made in Event Register with regular fees starting today. They won't start until next week; John, I will refund the difference shortly.

Just 13 spots left for the tournament!

Glad. Thanks for the information, it explains a lot. From your message am I right to assume the start times begin are the same as last year? Looking forward to the event, it will be fun.
Thanks to you and your team for putting this event on.

Start time information is on the schedule page. We start once every minute; if you request a late start on Friday, you may want to bring a headlamp.

How easy is it to get to the Stage One start by public transport? I want to know if it's possible to avoid renting a car as it has been at this event in the past.

Sadly, the 76 doesn't run on weekdays. It's a nice 9 km or so warmup jog from the highway bus stop. I should probably edit out last year's confident statement that all Stages are easily reachable by transit.

Your best bet is to hitch a ride from the Sports Basement. The rest of the Stages are indeed easily reachable (Stage One is too, but only on weekends).

There are now less than two heats remaining! (11 spots!)

Let's sell this out!

Eight to go. We'll put in regular fees sometime after next Monday, which is probably also when it will sell out.

Seven.

The latest development is that Stages One and Five may need to be switched. We will update the info and send out an email if this indeed happens. This makes the drive/transit on Friday somewhat simpler, and complicates departure on Sunday to about the same extent. If this does happen, John Crowther will be able to take transit every day!

>> This makes the drive/transit on Friday somewhat simpler

And it would also mean that the locals would not have to miss quite as much work on Friday, in order to get to the event venue before dark. (Not to mention that running at SF State would probably not be bad at all in the dusk/dark with a headlamp, unlike Point Bonita) Do it!

Well, so what happened is that Sunday was not officially part of the Finals week at SFSU, but Saturday before and the week after were, but now they are thinking Sunday is also part of the Finals week and so we shouldn't be there. Even though there are no finals, and probably very few students. Oh the boisterous play you make, forest running creatures.

As soon as I can get the permit with Point Bonita changed, I will send out the update.

SFSU expects me to be boisterous?

Challenge accepted.

Joseph Doetsch lets me know that the AGU annual meetings have been scheduled for 2015 and 2016, again in San Francisco, same week as this year both times. So, Sprint the Golden Gate will be on 11–13 December 2015 and 10–12 December 2016, hopefully with new maps. Tentative plan is to keep the same format. Tentative venues:

2015

Point Bonita
Golden Gate Park, Elk Glen
Golden Gate Park, Elk Glen
UCSF main campus
The Dogpatch

2016

UCSF main campus
Fort Funston
Fort Funston
Golden Gate Park, The Pines
Twin Peaks

Looking up the AGU, I see they hold events for the public on Sunday afternoon, following Stage 5:

Understand the reason for switch, but a bummer as I was looking forward to running at Point Bonita and was happy to give SFSU a miss as not running on Sunday. Ah well such is life! Looking forward to the event.

Four starting slots are remaining in the Sprint Tournament. We are going to go ahead and put in regular fees late tonight (Monday 25 November).
