Tucson Orienteering Club will hold a two-day meet including a Night-O, Feb 21-22, 2015. Hope to see you all there! More info coming soon.
I'M SO GLAD YOU POSTED THIS! I love the Tucson meets, but there wasn't anything posted when I checked their website a few weeks ago. Yay!
Yes, we just finalized the plan...
From the 2014 meet (photo by Becks):
That is still one of my favourite O' photos of all time! Love the Arizona spring meet, sorry not to be going this year!
This looks amazing! Too bad I didn't know about this more than a month beforehand...
Yeah, I don't want to be that guy. Sorry.
A lot of it is my fault for not being so nimble, schedule-wise.
No, it's definitely true that it would be nice to plan things further in advance. But, the bright side is that we're having the meet at all!
So I'm looking at the
A-meets for 2015. And don't see this TOC (or NEOC?) meet listed. So assume it will be a B-meet with a Night-O event tossed in?
The meet information link says it's a B meet.
(Edit) Tucson's abbreviation is listed some places as TSN, others as TOC. If TOC, they should left OUSA know with their recharter form, as I think TSN is programmed into the registration system and elsewhere....
(Another edit) TOC is Toronto Orienteering Club which predates Tucson. So TSN is its official abbreviation, despite what's on their website.
Also, the official A meet listing is
here.
Clark's link is to the unofficial planning calendar which isn't updated as often and doesn't include some already-sanctioned meets.
Clark's link also includes some unsanctioned events, too.
The PTOC event on February 14th isn't sanctioned. Nor is the Seattle Adventure Running Tournament in September, which I'm organizing and not seeking sanctioning for (I didn't submit it to the calendar).
From Article 1 of our bylaws: "The name of this organization shall be the "Tucson Orienteering Club, Limited" also known as "TSN" hereafter referred to as TOC."
"TOC" is used almost exclusively by all of us in Arizona to refer to the Tucson O Club, but it's not unusual for Tucsonians to unexpectedly find themselves representing the Toronto Orienteering Club at their first A- or B-meet outside our state.
Tory and I just bought plane tickets. Looking forward to it!!!
...the unofficial planning calendar which isn't updated as often and doesn't include some already-sanctioned meets.
Which already-sanctioned events are not on the Planning Calendar?
Since the Planning Calendar will include events that are just in the planning stages, it -- not the "official" A-event calendar -- is my go-to resource for, umm... planning.
While very useful, the planning calendar sometimes it gets a bit behind on indicating what events are actually sanctioned. The two calendars are most useful when used together.
@ GuyO, BAOC's event at the end of April is listed as "in sanctioning" on the planning calendar, but in fact has been sanctioned. (Notice received on late October.)
"doesn't include some already-sanctioned meets" sounds like they are not on the Planning Calendar at all.
I certainly agree that it could use more consistent updating -- and thought the Sanctioning Committee itself actually provided a lot of the info...
Penny-Pincher Tip: You can get a Tucson airport rental car (economy) for 12pm Friday through 12 pm Monday for $74, including all taxes & fees -- which is much cheaper than anything I found on Kayak, Hotwire, etc. Use BCD code "D464700" at the Budget.com website.
If you have a Costco membership, you can get the price down to $64 (Alamo intermediate), at the Costco travel site.
Pre-registration will close on Sunday.
Real nice event, thanks for directing it, and thanks to Lief for the courses.
I'd totally map that cactus.
@juffy: Tucson standard is to map any saguaro cactus that has arms. Ones that are just a vertical spike are not mapped. So the one (at the left) in the picture would be on the map.
They typically grow their first arm when 75 to 100 years old and several meters tall, so by then , they are a pretty visible feature in the otherwise sparse vegetation.
THANK YOU to Barb, Leif, and the other volunteers! Troy and I both really enjoyed the meet (and the nice weather).
Red control #11 on Sunday:
Does anyone know where I can get either the digital or printed copies of the maps from this weekend? I am now in Arizona and I am trying to get some training in.
JL,
You should be able get them from Leif Lundquist, who was the course setter for this event. Contact him through
