Korttelikuppi is Yökuppi's winter street version. It's even more low key event series, so low key all event's doesn't have live GPS tracking. But tomorrow there will be. Our aim is to test some tracking apps and platforms not much used so far, androids windows phones and such. You can watch here or go to Yökuppi's tracking page. Tomorrow mass start 6pm Finnish time.

(Runners may test their devices today, so you may see dots moving around already today, right now there seems to be on).

20 minutes. No much dots there yet, pre paid SIM cards are outdated? Most likely there will be no much action to be watched tonight. Well, there is 5 now, let's see.

Apparently there is no mass start after all. But some sort of start waves(?)

Five of them were using android phones. Three of them used an experimental sideloaded app. Two used browser tracking client (together with an app for keeping screen on and disabling buttons & touch screen - to not make it stop by accident), no app side loading/developer mode needed. Both approached worked just fine. In addition Glonass chips in them seem to work pretty well in this environment.

I think if antenna is good and placed well plain GPS gives about as accurate track as GPS+glonass, but if antenna is not that good or not that well placed (here smartphone in pocket or arm strap) glonass sure improves track quiet a bit. I guess body blocks part of the sky and those extra glonass satellites makes the difference - with glonass there is enough for reasonably accurate positioning, with plain GPS it is so so.

hughmac⁴ if you like to try just let me know, it's not hard to set up if you already have RG installed.

I'm way over my head here but would it work here in the US given that our cell signals are different? I know we would use phones that work here but would RG understand that okay?

Yes, just like you can access European web pages with your smart phone. It is world wide web after all.

Did they both go over an uncrossable fence at 3?

The tracking for Jani seems to be better than for Tuomo. So sign of Kimmo

I think it was east side of the fence, so they did not have to cross it.

There is some signs of Hirppa at the start if you mouse over "Kimmo App"

We will continue here in one hour (if I manage to merge and calibrate those two maps I got).

Edit: ok, here we go. This was last minute decissiont to set this tracking so some regulars may not know, so most likely there will not be too many moving dots tonight.

There might be just one to track but atleast it's Minna.
