Hello,
I would like to present upcoming new generation of virtual orienteering simulator Virtual-O.
Virtual-O is an independent game developed mainly for PC and Oculus Rift. Main objective is creating a full featured virtual orienteering simulator.

As a gamer, the controls in catching features put me off. As long as you use WASD and a mouse, or let them be customisable, it looks great.
I've been looking forward to some fun Oculus Rift applications, though they're not really on the market yet.
and it works on your Android or Apple smart phone

No, "vorienteering" was something different (real forest, virtual controls, no o-map).
Yes, it's different project. Virtual-O is an desktop virtual orienteering simulator. More similar to Catching Features game.
Thanks for feedback. Definitely input is something that may be considered with community. I'm aware how CF was working and classic FPS too.
Just wanted to add additional info:
Project is still in development. Probably few months from alpha phase (playable pilot map for selected volunteers).
Now I would like to get in touch with community and give it opportunity to shape the game and it's features.
So feel free to contact us on webpage (through contact form), facebook or twitter. Project is very open and hearing for opinion of players.
And this isn't suunnistussimulaattori either. Here is some coach O headcam footage:

This looks really great! Looking forward to trying it after the consumer Oculus Rift release!
Just to make it clear. Oculus is fully optional. In fact normal desktop PC mode is top priority. Oculus support is only experimental.
CF didn't allow me to look side to side without changing the direction of my running. I do this constantly while orienteering.
Look to side is on considered features list. It's different problem for different types of inputs (keyboard + mouse, gamepad etc). So I must play with it from gameplay side. If it is realizable. But yes, I like that idea.
In Suunnistussimulaattori you are able to look side to side without changing running direction
I do this constantly while orienteering.
For realism, you should add a 30% chance of faceplanting while looking to the side.
Well, that explains my face and this splitting headache.
Your face is not an effective means for splitting wood.

If my surface pro 3 didn't have such little RAM, I would be playing this game every day. I suppose that's a good thing.
