you can see in this edited map the frequency of chose legs between controls. Data source is splits results of top 20 finishers in the 6-hr division. Thickness of control circle indicates frequency of visitation, thickness of line between controls indicates number of competitors that chose that route, arrow indicates direction.

I didn't go that far at one of our similar events - I just did a heat map. I should see if I can take it to a similar level.
