Time for some predictions.
here are some to start
1) Emily Kemp will be smiling
2) Canada will win the BK Cup
3) There will be more features on the new Storr's Pond map than the existing one.
4) post-race AP threads will discuss more about the map, course setting, and arena design than the awesome athletic achievements that will be on display this weekend.
5) Burnt Mountain terrain will baffle more than a few orienteers.
6) Orienteeering in a cemetery? Really?
7) TG wins three more races.
8) An unknown junior orienteer might SOAR in to the spotlight.
"Orienteering in a cemetery? Really?"
One of the best areas used for the Rochester City Adventure (bike or foot options) is a large, hilly cemetery. For one of the controls this year, it took me a few minutes looking at small grave markers packed very closely together to find the right picture to answer the question.
In Hong Kong, one of the most common features on many of the maps is grave sites (shown on the map by a Christian style cross). One of the maps used for APOC has hundreds of them, scattered throughout the map.
@gordhun: TG was nearly 2 min/km faster than anyone else last weekend, so predicting a few more wins seems like a no-brainer...
@TM: predictions 1-5, 8 are also no-brainers.
Graeme Rennie might be the dark horse.
#2 is a "no-brainer"?? Just because Emily?
Is TG running for New France now?
Guy the chance of seeing Emily with a smile on her face is just slightly better than the chance of seeing TG win an orienteering race in North America.
Middle
Men:
1) Eric Kemp, CAN
2) Damien Konotopetz, CAN
2) Ross Smith, USA
Eric Kemp will be the North American to beat, top North American at WOC in the middle. Graeme Rennie or Critchley could sneak in for a CDN sweep.
Women:
1) Emily Kemp, CAN
Gap
2) Alison Crocker, USA
3) Louise Oram, CAN
Should be a very good day for Team Kemp!
Men middle prediction:
1) Anton Salmenkyla, USA
2) Damien Konotopetz, CAN
3) Eric Bone, USA
Nev I would reverse Women Middle 2 and 3. Louise ran very well in Sweden. Over in the men Salmenkyla should win just because of the name alone.
