I very much appreciated the live results at http://www.orienteering-live.com/, but they seemed to stop working for me just when it was getting most interesting. Anyone else have that problem?

First clue it wasn't working - Adam Woods beating TG ;-)

Looked like after a certain point the system wasn't getting the finish times - so those who'd already finished looked great, but everyone else's times just kept incrementing.

Happened even with a browser refresh, or restart on another browser

Watching the little squares run around can be quite interesting and illuminating. More interesting is actually seeing routes posted, so please add your tracks.

vmeyer, updating RG version would make uploading gps tracks easier for those who start watch before the actual start time. It sets that timing slider initially right, not always at zero.

Will do when internet and brain are working faster. Upgrading doesn't always go as well as one would hope... :)

Emily held off Ali and Alex charged like mad to steal third from approx a minute back. CAN USA USA

Except I mispunched (didn't punch the control at end of spectator chute), so CAN-USA-CAN.

My bad, I should have qualified as unofficial spectator version with a flight. Also, too caught up on the excitement.

Thanks for all the updates, live and otherwise. It was nice to have a little sense of what was going on from afar.

Valerie if you have too much time on your hands, how were the relay splits calculated as per when did runners go on the clock and then stop?

The finish time for a leg was when the person punched the Finish after the handoff, making that the Start time for the second leg. So, I am guessing some are badly off? :)

Leg 1, 2 and 3 runners spent various amounts of time on the ground, wandering around not knowing quite what to do, coming to download without punching finish, etc. so it is not surprising that their finish split time and the first split of the next runner could be off. It wouldn't have surprised me if some punched finish after the next leg runner punched their first control.

If I do indeed have too much time on my hands ;-), I may review the video and redo the times.

In Swedish relays the finish punch is always BEFORE the handoff. Whatever seconds that elapse after that are added to the next runners time, usually not an issue since both parties want a quick handoff

Here's a probably-related question...

Why was the no-punch finish abandoned for the Sprint and Sprint Relay?

We went with a finish punch for the sprint mainly due to the time constraints with the 8am start time. The extra equipment, cabling, and testing required to setup the finish line would have pushed the morning setup time even earlier than it already was.
It was disappointing to me not to be able to do it for the sprint where I think it makes the most difference, but it was the right decision in terms of guaranteeing that we got the most important things right and working that morning.

In situations where junior classes run the same course as the senior classes, juniors are eligible to be scored as both a junior and a senior.

... The USA Jr 2 team and Canada Jr 1 team scored BK Cup points as their respective countries' second placing
teams.

Canada Jr 1 was Canada's third placing team Guy though Canada's 2nd team did have two juniors on the team

1. A couple of runners can be seen crossing through olive green, one of whom was only 1 place out of the medals.

2. Green X and green Z courses are exactly the same.

re #2 - I forgot that was mentioned to me. I had planned on combining them.

Did anybody get any pictures or video of the exciting handoff between the race leaders at the end of Leg 2?

Not on the finish line video, just a gasp from the spectators indicated something was amiss.

However, Anton apologized to DK as he followed him to download...so, there is that.

Assuming these are not hand drawn routes. The GPS is only so accurate, especially in places with lots of buildings. I've had it show that I was running through the edges and corners of buildings before. Someone skirting olive green might appear to be going through it if they didn't bother adjusting their GPS route.

I know of a few orienteers who are colour blind

I didn't run in the sprints, but when I looked at the maps, I had a hard time identifying the olive. As I've stated elsewhere on this site, the IOF color scheme is completely broken in this regard.

I assume you are referring to my route to #1? I only now see the distinction between the green and the olive. I thought I was in the clear skirting the building, but I may not have been. If a protest is filed with the organizers, I will not object to being DQ'ed on this, though I would appreciate being offered the option of a SPW per A.31.16

In my case, the latter. I only realized I most likely passed through olive green once it was pointed out in this thread. I didn’t even see it while adding my route to RouteGadget.

I emailed the event director requesting that the jury take a look at this and I included an offer to withdraw. I don't know if any action will be taken, but at least it has now been brought to the organizers attention in an official manner.

I have some red-green color blindness. I can't distinguish, even now, between the green around the buildings that I presume is out of bounds, and the green near the first control on Green X (#31) that I presume represents fight. I tried to go through the latter and gave up.

Well that's certainly interesting, as yes, it's the green near Green X #31 that is olive and that Bo and one other person drew their routes crossing in routegadget. I didn't have difficulty identifying that one as olive but there have been times on many sprints when I've seen some sort of planted area and been unsure whether it was ok to cross and chosen to go around rather than to stop and try to locate it on the map to determine its color.

The thing I had trouble with on this map was stairways -- in particular the ones at Green X #2 (code 90), which was shared with some other courses. The stairways are so narrow on the map that I didn't spot them. Thus I took the grey passage from the north as the only way in and out of the courtyard, which eliminated the road route to the south from consideration, and also necessitated a longer route to the north from 2 to 3. Once I got into the passage to the courtyard I saw a large window directly in front of me that was too high to exit through, and a stairway to the right that led up into darkness. I thought the stairway wasn't on the map but I can see now on the routegadget map that it is. On my map it is covered by the control circle. [No, after studying it with a magnifier I can now see the control circle is in fact cut there, but the stairway has insufficient contrast to be visible without both a bright light and a magnifier!] Anyway as I was backing up to see if I could clear the window by taking a running start at it, Emma Waddington came blasting in and went straight up the stairway. "Oh..., maybe that will work after all."

Diving through the window to #90 was a highlight of the sprint course!
