On today's WSJ, page 3 upper right corner, an ad by Tiffany & Co is showing a compass named 1837 Compass, and the text "The Right Direction. Santa has to start somewhere"

A compass...for Santa...who lives at the North Pole...

Okay, okay, not the magnetic North Pole - it's all for the sake of a joke...

Nice catch sherpes! For the orienteer who has 'everything.' A $345 compass engraved "T&Co" just so it doesn't appear too ostentatious to everyone else at the O meet!

Just a guess: I suspect it's a swell trinket but a pretty mediocre compass.

Yeah but you'll always know what year Tiffany & Co was founded. Plus it's defined by 'sleek curves and contours'. I imagine for that size they must be 1mm contour intervals.

Not even liquid-filled. For that price, I would expect it to be filled with Dom Perignon.

Are you certain it's not liquid filled?

The needle shape resembles a Suunto needle. Did they outsource the "guts"?

They won't be allowed to any more. Sitting right under Trump Tower,

@slow-twitch: Nobody dreams of a Rolls Royce anymore: Now it would be a P100DL Tesla with all the trimmings. :-)

As most of you probably know, Norway is the perfect country for electric vehicle, particularly the high-end models, since here the cost relatively to comparable ICE cars is 2-3 times cheaper and all our electricity is from hydro power.

Note that this isn't exactly a new item, Tiffany's has been selling these silver compasses for years, but they've got a "special edition" right now, presumably for a premium price. One of the regular ones sold on ebay a few days ago for $105, which isn't that much more than you might pay for a real compass.

It's also smaller than I had imagined.
