Discussion: #15WRC2017

The 2017 World Rogaining Championships have started - at time of posting an hour and twenty two minutes into the event. http://wrc2017.rogaining.lv/en/ live results and tracking starts two hours into the event.
There are ten radio control check points; one hundred controls on the course.
There are a number of teams who were selected to carry tracking devices for the duration of the event and other teams who took up the offer of carrying a tracking device.

Congratulations to Vancouver's Mara Leitane (Orzons), Latvian-Canadian and GVOC member - Women's Open 2nd place!!!

We met her and her team-mate after hoisting a Canadian flag shortly after our arrival at the EC. Then running into her later in downtown Riga, casually asked her how her race went...

and how did your race go, bchubb? I looked at the results but that doesn't tell the story!

I'm told supporters of the 3rd place aussies who watching results were a bit worried about us during the night ;-) We made mistakes and lost a lot of time on a few legs, visited when we should have been navigating, and were a bit over optimistic in planning. I think we may be avoiding 9 pointers in the future. Highlight was recieving a big bag of cucumbers from a nice lady near the end as we passed on the trail adjacent to her house. And yes we ate a couple of them on the go. Sure were good after 21 hours of cliff bars and gels.
