HVO and WCOC are pleased to host a series of four bare-bones, time-yourself orienteering races this winter. Each event offers a Brown, Green and Red course, and participants download the maps from a link posted on this site. Control flags will be out in the woods for about two weeks. You run whenever you want while the flags are out. The races are honor system based with no boxes/punches on the controls, just touch the flag (no remote visual punching). No beginner’s courses will be available.

Results and Ranking
Participants time themselves and subsequently upload their results directly to the respective Attackpoint.org event pages or email their times to the Results Coordinator. Posting splits and GPS tracks are preferred, but not required.

For each race, the athletes will be ranked with the winner on each course getting 10 points, second best 9 points, etc. down to 1 point. Anyone completing a course will automatically get 1 point. After the last event of the series, a cumulative score based on each runner’s three best results, and the winners of the WCOC/HVO Winter Series will be announced.

Quick correction to the schedule: the second event in the Winter Series will be at Huntington SP rather than at Paugussett SP, set by Tony and Karen Muffatti. Same dates, i.e., Jan. 13-21.

Note that the weekend of Jan. 13-15 (MLK day weekend), flags will be in the woods at both Pound Ridge and Huntington. Orienteers are welcome to stay at Susan and my home that weekend, for those (especially those who live further away) who want to do both courses that weekend without having to drive back home each day. Huntington is about 5 minutes from our house; Pound Ridge about 50 minutes. Think of it like a classic 2-day A meet, just a bit less formal. If you’re interested in staying with us, just drop me an email (wrdewitt@snet.net).
