EMPO is offering the EMP-O-Ringen on June 2 in Albany County, which will offer a choice of courses on 5 separate maps in parks and woodlands around the town of Berne, New York.

The courses will be Middle distance format, with both a short (beginner/advanced beginner) and a medium (intermediate/short advanced) course offered on each of the five maps.

Complete just one or two; or choose to run the series. "Winners" will be declared for each course among those who compete on all five maps.

The Rules and Notes document has just been updated with new pricing for juniors, and revised course data (short straight-line distance is 7.2 km; medium is 15.5 km).

Can this be considered a variation of O' intervals?

Any recommendations for camping or lodging?

Thompsons Lake, near Thacher State Park, is likely the closest camping. Motels are either north towards Schenectady or west towards Schoharie. Otherwise, ask Phil (philht at outlook.com or at gmail.com). He lives in Berne and would have the best knowledge.

Any notion on total distance (long versions) if one were to travel (road run) on foot between each map?

Looks like distance between maps is includes in the first link above. Also note there is a course closing time given for each.

Thanks, Mitch. Yes, distances between maps are in the notes. It would be conceivable to bike between them, I'd think. "Make your own adventure race"

An overview map should be later available this week.

EDIT: Information/directions for Margaret Burke WMA (first of the five maps)

The distance looks fine, but wouldn't that be a little soon, Clint?

I guess I missed the inter-map distances in my first perusal. This weekend is a stepping stone, hoping to not need much recovery. Might consider a bike/run. Probably couldn't make cutoffs on foot.

Note that there will be hills between venues to factor in if you do choose to bike between.

It's a climb from Burke to Pinnacle, and from Pinnacle to Cole Hill. Switzkill is the highest elevation, then it's downhill to Foxenkill Flats (in the village of Berne).

A driving directions map link, and last minutes notes, appear on the event page. If you're even thinking of attending, please email Phil your registration info to speed things up (even if you ultimately don't go).
