It was crossing the trail slowly, rattled a little as I was passing on the side, so obviously it wasn't too happy. I think it was a youngin, pretty small comapred to ones I've seen in NY.

they can be more dangerous than adult ones because they dont have as much control over how much venom to release when they bite. An adult will deliver less and save some for a second bite if needed.
But they are tastier than the adults.
