Discussion: Samsung Galaxy 2 Tablet

I see people talking about using Samsung Galaxy tablets for field work.
I have a chance to pick up one or more Galaxy 2 tablets for what seems like a very good price.
What should I be looking for in the tablets?
I would think they have gps as they are being re-purposed off golf carts.
They still have their protective screens.
I think they were powered off the golf carts.
Scrreens? 10.1 inch
What else?
What do you think would be the going value?

Did the golfers have GPS on their balls to track them down? That defeats the purpose of smashing your shot into the bush and having to go find it.

Maybe it was to direct them to the nearest bar.

What is the condition of the battery? I picked up a Garmin Forerunner for cheap, but the battery is near end-of-life. Can the batteries be replaced?

I am in Canada and the tablets are in Florida so I probably won't see them until late October but I know the course owner and he would put some aside if I asked.
The tablets were attached to the power system of the electric golf carts so while the batteries could be mint condition they may also be shot.
Lets take a worst case scenario with the battery. What would the rest of the tablet be worth?
Kevin, Yes the Forerunner batteries can be replaced but usually it is by Garmin and they take back your watch and sell you a refurbished one with a new battery.

The forerunner is a good proxy for your golf score. There is a good correlation between the number of strokes and distance measured by GPS when taken over the whole course. The correlation breaks down for individual holes.

I was actually wondering why you need a GPS on a golf cart. Typically there is a sign pointing you to the next tee. Back when I used to play golf they had blue markers indicating 150m to the green and red ones for 100m and it was the golfer's outstanding visualisation of the distance to work out what club was needed.

@Tricky For the most part you are correct and for most golfers the GPS devices are just gimmicks as it is one thing to know the exact yardage (metres to go) and another thing to hit it. However for high end golfers the gps replaces the need to have a knowledgeable caddie when visiting a course one doesn't know.
Also even the rest of us can benefit from a gps/ map to tell us the yardage to various obstacles.
Anyway thanks to the folks who have offered opinions. I have done some research through eBay and decided it is worth the $25 to ask the course owner to put aside one of his tablets for me, two actually.
