Is there any event info available beyond the dates yet?

I'm starting to look ahead to the spring season for Orienteering Ottawa's Racing Program athletes and it would be nice to know what kind of events, what maps, etc. to expect for one of the first major events of the spring. It will be a big season focus for us.

Jeff, Bring them to Florida April 6 to 14. We are having three competitions within 20 miles of each other (approval pending on one) and seven maps within the same area and available for training. Terrains range from open and fast to complex and fast.
We supply the mapss. You supply the training.
Free use of maps can be bartered for field work time on new maps.

Thanks all!

Just to be clear, I'm not looking at more events for the season (for the spring at least) we have all of our events scheduled in already (in terms of major Events - West Point, our own club's spring training weekend, COCs, Ontario Champs). That's all we can take on as a club program but maybe individual athletes will travel to more on their own. It's now at the starting to plan the logistics for them and the training and prep. stage

For the lazy, Jeff, when and where are your training weekend, COCs, and Ontario Champs?

Anyway, here's the info you're looking for:
Ottawa Spring Training Weekend:

- Will likely cap at 70 people - sold at 50 last year near Ottawa

COCs
- July 20-28
- Ottawa for 3 days, North of Montreal for the rest
- link to website
- registration opening soon

Ontario Champs
- Dates tbd (Fall)
- Hosted by Toronto Orienteering Club near Guelph, ON
- all other details unknown

no, West Point orienteering events go back a bit further than 40 years. I'm guessing the first one was in 1973 or 1974 using USGS topo maps. Round Pond was one day's event center and I remember a training event held high on one hill overlooking the Hudson where there were a lot of remains of lookouts and artillery placements.
It is only their 40th because a few years they could not hold events.

When I started going to the events (early 2000s) they were still being called the West Point Invitational. Was there ever a time when it was a true invitational (you had to be selected and asked to attend) or did they just call it that because outside orienteers were invited to come?

Is there a website for the West Point meet? somehow it just forwards to usma.edu.
I would like to buy tickets to fly there, but I have little clue where I have to go...
