Hi,
is there an approved way to enter splits for a score event? Based on experience from previous years, I'm probably the only one to enter splits, so I could pretend it's actually a course -- but how do you do it properly?
Come to think of it, is there any decent way to analyse a score event, whether it can be performed on AP or not?

Check out the Sydney Summer Series facebook page. In the comments of some of the posts (usually the long ones), Richard Pattison does some event analysis (less analysis for individual runners, but some of the techniques could probably be applied to individuals if you want to)

But yeah, no, I don't think there's any meaningful way to use Attackpoint's splits facility for that.

Unfortunately AP can't even enter splits for relays (except for runners on the same variation, which reduces the numbers per course a fair bit) and mass start variations, let alone score events, not that I think it'd be much use for that anyway.

Many years ago I made an attempt on this, I wrote a program that downloaded all the splits, then for each combination of to/from control numbers I would calculate a sorted list of the split times of every runner who had done this particular combination.

I could have gone on to do the same for all 2-leg/3-leg/etc combination, but that would have made for a _very_ long list indeed.

Another possibility which I considered was to automatically pick up forking groups, i.e. control combinations which at least x% of the runners had taken, and then use that to remove singletons, i.e. runners who had probably punched an extra control in the middle of a series.

Today I would start with an OCAD download of all combinations and then simply list those, the trick is to automatically re-arrange internal butterfly/phi-loop/penta forkings into a canonical order, it is possible that winsplits can do this?

Winsplits doesn't seem to have a problem uploading all the combinations from different forkings and loops, it just puts everyone into the same order (provided everyone ultimately does the same course otherwise it doesn't work so well and instead uploads different combos, e.g. relays).
