BFLO has reluctantly decided to postpone the 2020 EAR to 2021. The new date for the event will be August 28, 2021.

bummer, I understand the need to postpone, (although rogaine type events are about as distant as you can get) but my club always has a big ROTC meet the last Sat in August.

Booing an event organizer? unbelievable.

I thought he was just booing the circumstances.

Meanwhile, what's the plan for the 2021 EAR? Will it get pushed forward a year to 2022? Or will you have back-to-back events the same year? Or will the 8/28/21 event count as both? Or will the 2021 event be held in 2020?

seems this race happens on odd years. I"ll be there next year whether it is the 2020 or 2021 version.

Love the area, was really hoping it would go this year. I'm sure that Sherpes meant no offence to the organizer.

Has it been every year since 2012 except 2018 (and 2020)?

Yeah, I would call this a cancel, not a postpone :-)

Joe:
correct JJ. I raced in 2017 and looked forward to 2018 only to have it cancelled. raced in 2019 and looked forward to 2020 only to have it cancelled. so every two years for me.

No offense taken. We were thinking the 2021 event could occur simultaneously with the postponed 2020 event so you would get two events for the price of one. Super efficient use of your time. On second thought, maybe better to call it a cancel. But like many other things these days, it's a dynamic situation so stay tuned. BTW, we'd really like this to be an annual event but stuff keeps getting in the way.

march 2020 - western PA - Raccoongaine rogaine cancelled
august 2020 - western NY - Ellicottville rogaine cancelled
october 2020 - northeast OH - Python rogaine cancelled

oh, and btw, the Canoe-O in mid-July near Akron, OH, has also been cancelled. Just when I had my kayak ready...

the Oct 18 Pittsburgh, PA 4-hour score course in North Park on a 1:15,000 map will NOT be cancelled.

something that is not cancelled and happening in one week in northeast OH is an adventure race in a Boy Scout reservation that has been mapped by Bob Bolts of NEOOC, and the race will have a orienteering 40-minute Score course that uses that map. Registration is still open and it's only $65. A bunk bed in their camp cabin is $10 overnight.

sherpes, I wouldn't be sure of that. I cant imagine we could get a permit in October if the situation is similar to how it is in Allegheny county right now.

I'll also say, I am not overly interested in volunteering at races and co-mingling with strangers right now.

While I think racing, especially rogaines, can be done safely, I do not fault organizers for cancelling based on permitting, the volunteer work, etc that is necessary for races to be successful.

Is it sad? Yes. Is it the current reality? Also Yes.

so, what to do?

- no on-site instruction by a human speaking at loud voice to a crowd
- remote pickup of packet
- promote pre-registration
- onsite registration done very carefully
- place ribbons to fence off areas and create chutes of flow for people
- no gathering post-race
- start and finish control positioned away from people

That first one can easily be dealt with by use of a microphone.

Organizers: If/when your event cancels, please update all postings. For example, your listing on Attackpoint.
