Evan R:

I've been working on a free retro-styled orienteering game, which takes the idea of catching features and makes it both substantially less useful and substantially more fun by combining orienteering with fast paced FPS combat. If you've ever felt like your orienteering games were too educational and didn't have enough zombies, carnage, and low quality 25 year old graphics, then you might enjoy this game! It will explore what happens when your local orienteering championships are rudely interrupted by a nuclear meltdown, mutating common microorganisms into a zombie creating super-virus. You'll explore the remains of the event's courses on you way to kill the final boss: The zombified event director himself.

The game is not ready for release yet, as while much of it is finished there are still many maps to design and courses to set. The final version will be sure to feature:
-- 10+ unique orienteering themed weapons
-- A wide range of interesting maps
-- 5 different levels of course difficulty
-- A full scoring system, including time bonuses and penalties
-- A variety of enemies and environmental hazards
-- The ability to create, edit, and share your own maps and courses
-- possible multiplayer support (team mode and competition mode)
-- And much more!

This game (as you likely can tell) is not particularly deep, instructive, or serious, but will hopefully be balanced, fun, and present an actual challenge: Can you complete the courses in time, all while fighting off hordes of si-wielding undead?

I hope you enjoy this trailer as much as I enjoyed making it!

Shoe spikes, ninja star compass and sharp map edge (causing paper cuts) come to mind. Map bags for suffocation?

I'm glad I've been holding out on getting a new sportident - the extra features on the new series look awesome!

Way too much time on your hands. Don't we all have that?
Time to get the current Apocalypse over with so we can enjoy orienteering in more convectional ways.
But thanks for posting. It is a fun watch. Now if only I could take down some of those M65+ hotshots with my new SI I'd be a very happy guy.
But seriously has anyone ever tried to adapt orienteering into laser tag or paintball?

Thanks for the replies everyone, I'm glad you liked it! To answer your question MCrone, it runs on the open source GZDOOM engine so I can distribute it for Windows, Mac, and Ubuntu, and if anyone wanted to run it on a different linux distro they could compile it themselves as well!

I helped optimize the original Quake asm code (my name is in the manual), so I would really appreciate a retro 3D O game. :-)
