The Western Pennsylvania Orienteering Club will host in North Park (north of city of Pittsburgh) a map and compass 4-hour "adventure race" rogaining course on Sunday Oct 18. Participants will be challenged to locate and find orienteering checkpoints (flags) in off-trail conditions, guided by terrain and vegetation features, printed on a paper map, tabloid size 11x17, scale 1:15000. To clear all 35 controls, it's estimated to require 26 km.
The permit allows a max of 75 people due to COVID restrictions. Currently, there are 30 spots left. Pre-registration (no payment necessary) is mandatory to comply with the permit restrictions. Pre-registration is on the honor system: if you commit to show up, then show up. Otherwise you are taking the spot of someone else. Payment in cash is due on event day ($10).
No prizes, no awards, no shirt, no medals, no ribbons, no food, no bib, no hubs, no kisses. It's down to earth.
