Discussion: Update

We are still in planning for this event.

We are planning to make a decision on the scale of this event based on the COVID-19 situation within the local area. We plan to make an initial decision by 1 March. If we host the event we will adhere to all OrienteeringUSA COVID-19 recommendations throughout the event.

And I thought just getting a regular NRE packet through the post commander and the Supe's office was tough...good luck with that, Jordan.

West Point's Annual National Event will not be hosting a National Ranking Event nor an event which those outside of the West Point community can attend. This is due to the conditions not only within New York State which requires quarantining upon entry to the state but the conditions within the nation and the West Point community. We look forward to hosting a two day event in Spring of 2022.

Thanks for the update and your work on this, Jordan. It's tough luck, but it sounds like the right choice given the circumstances.

It's happening. SML. Middle and Long will be on a newly updated map.

The cadets are a bit behind as they've lost a lot of institutional knowledge of how to host events without being able to host one for the past two years. We're building back the knowledge.

As the course consultant, I can say the courses will be quite enjoyable.

Which begs the question...what does Jordan define as "enjoyable?"

West Point "enjoyable" ..fabulous views from the tops of the mountains! (which is where your controls are).

@coach,that's only your 'special' course. Hilltops interspersed with controls in the middle of dense swamps.

Ha! I can neither confirm nor deny that I might have led jklaughlin through one of those lovely swamps the last time I got to orienteer at West Point...

I saw this event is still pending sanction.. hope that it occurs soon. Would love to attend this event.

Sanctioning was finalized yesterday.

More detailed info expected tomorrow... Sprint & Middle on Sat, Long on Sunday
