Hello Friends. I’ve sad news to report. Clark Maxfield, long-standing member of CAOC, has died. He fought a courageous battle and will be fondly remembered by many for his generous, astute and always authentic contributions. I for one have lost a great friend. A green burial will be held Wednesday May 5, 10:00 am at Windbridge Memorial Park, Cary IL

Clark was a larger than life personality. One of those folks we are blessed to enjoy in this sport. I have many fond memories of affably spending time with Clark from Wyoming to Sweden and parts in between. Anything but a shrinking violet, Clark would add mirth and spice to any conversation—whether in person or across the world. He always kept things interesting and was always true to his values and principles. That’s a great example for all of us. We’ll miss you.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Although I never met him, I read a lot of his posts, and felt some connection as I grew up in a suburb of Chicago.

I wondered whether I would ever encounter Clark again, but it's not to be. He was logging a lot of exercise as recently as a few weeks ago.

Lawful Good, and proud of it.

Clark will be missed. I remember traveling to Russia, Estonia, Finland and Sweden with him late last century. Always interesting to travel with Clark.

Sad news, indeed. I enjoyed how interested in things Clark was. I also found him to be a kind soul, albeit one who did a poor job of hiding it at times.

That is very sad, and quite a surprise to me. I had only met Clark occasionally back when he was orienteering, but developed a nice attackpoint friendship with him over the last 10 years or so. A very interesting guy and a good friend. I will miss him.

Sad to hear. I never met him but couldn´t avoid reading some of his comments on various AP threads - always with saving the environment in mind.
