Dear Orienteers:
We held the first "Map My Camp" course at the Philmont Training Center. We had eight participant. Six beginners and two experienced mappers. The course concentrated on how to use OCAD to draw the map with a smattering of mapping techniques. We went into the back country a couple of times to learn about field checking.
This is a start. The staff is working on improving the course for next year. Yes, there will be a new and improved course for next year for any one who wants to improve their OCAD and mapping skills.
The course did not cover OOM, because everyone in the class had OCAD or a free 6 month trial subscription.
