BorisGr:
Are they just hanging out at the start right now? Is it mass start?
Apr 15, 2009 7:24 PM #
Jagge:
Yep. Only two runners tracked, AP nicks Terkelsen and Hirppa.
And all events are night O, so it's not as easy as it may look.
Apr 15, 2009 7:25 PM #
BorisGr:
How many are actually racing? That is, are these guys running by themselves or in massive packs?
Apr 15, 2009 7:33 PM #
jde:
according to the startlist, 23 runners are on the startlist on the long course. This is a warmpup for Tiomila's webb-TV...
Apr 15, 2009 7:45 PM #
BorisGr:
I've got a feeling this is better than Tiomila's WebTV will be!
Apr 15, 2009 8:01 PM #
Jagge:
And it's over.

Yes, there was about 30 runners, I guess all runners were not in web start list. I guess tracked runners were somewhere in the middle, about 10+ mins behind the winner.
Apr 15, 2009 8:52 PM #
Hirppa:
Yes, Jagge got it close. I lost about 10min to Esa Huttunen.
Pretty good start for the series. Terrain was nice and the only real mistake I made was to follow Timo at #6 and #7. The weather was freezing though. -2C when we got to the finish. Shoe laces were iced up and pretty hard to open.
Apr 22, 2009 4:33 PM #
Jagge:
2 hours to start. One of the top runners - Yökuppi overall winner 2005 & 2007 and second 2006 and 2008 - is tracked tonight. And from now on.

Map and course is out. It' getting dark, firs runners are warming up. Staggered start tonight, you can use start line / split line tools to get splits and compare runners porformance.
Apr 22, 2009 6:53 PM #
jankoc:
Nice with a routechoice to the first control. I think I might have taken the road - or at least a bit more left than JLe. Would be more fun to watch the tracking with a mass start though.

PS! Jagge - I'd highly recommend including a chat window at the bottom of the live tracking. Either as part of Routegadget, or embedding a chat window from an external service.
Apr 22, 2009 7:10 PM #
Ruhis:
First time I'm watching Yökuppi live... It's hypnotizing!
Apr 22, 2009 7:58 PM #
Jagge:
Right. It's over. 7 days left to the next session.

snap - snap - Ruhis! wake up!

It's again time for Yökuppi. 30 minutes to start.

If WOC gps tracking was not enough for you tracking addicts, here is dessert for you:

Rx:
This place looks familiar. 3 to 4 is kind of cruel
Aug 19, 2009 7:05 PM #
Jagge:
I can see you have spent some time there. Nice place for night O, and look's like #1 and #2 are challenging enough.
Aug 19, 2009 7:20 PM #
Rx:
The whole course looks challenging enough but I meant cruel because that swamp and middle area is just rough to run through, or I could even use stronger words, but at the same time fun in masochistic way. Now to bed to dream of (oops, wrong image, better edit the original verb to...) battling through bush.
Aug 19, 2009 9:34 PM #
Hirppa:
I can confirm that 3-4 cruelness. I pretty much knew what that between-the-roads-swamp would be like but it still stunned me pretty hard. But that was almost the only leg where some will power was needed. Absolutely magnifisent night-o terrain!
Too bad that Johan is in such good shape... Makes us mortals feel inadequate. Results
Aug 26, 2009 5:36 PM #
Jagge:
About 30 minutes to start, 21:00 Finnish time, if it will not get postponed for not being dark enough.

Mass start, nice looking course with forking, hopefully 7-8 tracked runners.

Sep 2, 2009 6:17 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Quite a big "shift" on Timppa's gps-route.
(5) = only 5 satellites locked?
Sep 2, 2009 6:25 PM #
Jagge:
Timo's phone's internal gps isn't the most accurate and sensitive one.

As you can see Hirppa's gps does well as usual.
Sep 2, 2009 6:44 PM #
A.Le Coq:
KHi(10), TAh(4). I guess that tells also something.
Sep 2, 2009 6:59 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Timo: 1min mistake on 12th. Nice, that you can measure that with startline - splitline function.
Also little curving to 3rd.
Otherwise suberb moving in dark night.
Sep 2, 2009 7:04 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Now timppa's signal died down.
Sep 2, 2009 7:09 PM #
Jagge:
I guess he ran out of battery.
Sep 2, 2009 7:11 PM #
A.Le Coq:
or maybe a bear bited a battery. Where's timo...?
Sep 2, 2009 7:13 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Fortunately the cavalry is coming (KHi).
Sep 2, 2009 7:16 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Trouble in green (11th), but Kimmo managed it.
Sep 2, 2009 7:23 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Ouch, now Kimmo is doing a big mistake (12th)..
Sep 2, 2009 7:25 PM #
A.Le Coq:
I would say 3 min.
Sep 2, 2009 7:26 PM #
jleh:
Big mistake +2,5 min to Timo
Sep 2, 2009 7:32 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Quite nice run by Kimmo, except that 12th. Also a little staggering on 9th and 11th.
What about the route choice of both them on 3rd?
Green hills after T-crossing? Or maybe there was good runability.
Sep 2, 2009 7:51 PM #
Jagge:
We were thinking the same. The south route looks faster, I wonder why they went straight, maybe there was a new trail, there was a big event last weekends event.
Sep 2, 2009 8:58 PM #
Hirppa:
There was no trail to #3 and my plan was not to go straight... I guess that tells quite a lot.
And what comes to the #12, Esa Huttunen caught me right after #11 and I thought that he will get me to finish in no time. But from the curve you can see where he went. I was actually the one who found the #12 and guided him there also.
That terrain was a lot better during the day time. Now I enjoyed it only in some short moments. Although this time I ran with 90%-power (Finnish champs in three days) and that may have something to do with the bad feeling.
Sep 9, 2009 5:12 PM #
Jagge:
It is Wednesday night again and about 30 minutes to start.
Sep 9, 2009 5:17 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Only Tuxi at the line?
Sep 9, 2009 5:29 PM #
Jagge:
I expect 4 tracked runners (out of about 60 runners).
Sep 9, 2009 5:58 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Tuukka picked 13th?
Sorry, Mr. TTu
Sep 9, 2009 6:02 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Where are they going? Not 2nd, instead 11th.
Sep 9, 2009 6:03 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Aha, that was a mistake!
Sep 9, 2009 6:05 PM #
A.Le Coq:
About 3 min
Sep 9, 2009 6:08 PM #
Jagge:
KLe in 10 sec lead at #1 :)

I guess Hirppa will not show up. Flu?
Sep 9, 2009 6:16 PM #
jleh:
Or some problems with tracking devices again?
Sep 9, 2009 6:20 PM #
A.Le Coq:
KHi should be here watching..
Sep 9, 2009 6:21 PM #
A.Le Coq:
if in flu
Sep 9, 2009 6:22 PM #
Jagge:
If hirppa still uses my old phone from 90's it's not a big wonder it doesn't work perfectly every time :)

There is obvious "samnlöpning" going on.
Sep 9, 2009 6:27 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Yes, "tappituntumalla"
Sep 9, 2009 6:33 PM #
A.Le Coq:
What is with Timppa?
Sep 9, 2009 6:33 PM #
Jagge:
TAh is doing now something. Wrong leg againg? Or is somebody injured?
Sep 9, 2009 6:34 PM #
A.Le Coq:
The twins are doing good.
Sep 9, 2009 6:35 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Now it looks that TAh is back in business
Sep 9, 2009 6:36 PM #
Jagge:
More "samnlöpning" on the way. KLe in 1:18 lead.
Sep 9, 2009 6:36 PM #
A.Le Coq:
There is a triplet soon
Sep 9, 2009 6:36 PM #
A.Le Coq:

Sep 9, 2009 6:39 PM #
A.Le Coq:
They should find the last 2 cp's easily with those lumens.
Sep 9, 2009 6:41 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Oh, TAh is going to cp, the others are going to hiking.
Sep 9, 2009 6:42 PM #
A.Le Coq:
No, they turn right, good.
Sep 9, 2009 6:49 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Maybe I'm alone watching
Sep 9, 2009 6:50 PM #
Jagge:
No, you are not... here is three spectators. KLe had his chances, according to to gps he had couple of seconds lead just before the last control, but...

Hello online-gps-watchers, I'm at the hospital just now, but happily they have wlan here! Lookin forward tonight's adventures.
Sep 23, 2009 4:25 PM #
A.Le Coq:
By the way, nice backround pic at the moment. It was taken by J. Kyrö at Kiiliö Yökuppi start line, was it 2 yrs ago. I was routemaster.
Sep 23, 2009 4:27 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Now the real thing...
Sep 23, 2009 4:31 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Where are the dots...?
Sep 23, 2009 4:32 PM #
Jagge:
Hey, take it easy. You are in hospital you know...
Sep 23, 2009 4:33 PM #
A.Le Coq:
You mean that they're comin with white coats and take me to the..
Sep 23, 2009 4:59 PM #
Jagge:
Dots? They call them pills in hospital.

Clear weather, they are still waiting for the darkness.
Sep 23, 2009 5:03 PM #
A.Le Coq:
damn, it's that FC Lahti - JJK match tonight.
Sep 23, 2009 5:12 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Would be clearer, if the dots are more distinguishable colors, red, blue and so on.
Sep 23, 2009 5:33 PM #
Jagge:
There is 40 different colors in use. Red, blue and so on are not running tonight.
Sep 23, 2009 5:40 PM #
A.Le Coq:
ooh, they have own colors.
Still it would be clearer if those colors were used.
Sep 23, 2009 5:41 PM #
A.Le Coq:
TTu is doing well tonite
Sep 23, 2009 5:42 PM #
Jagge:
The will se each others lights now.
Sep 23, 2009 5:44 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Yes they almost met each other at the road.
Sep 23, 2009 5:46 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Road route choice to 7th, seems to be 30 s faster
Sep 23, 2009 5:47 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Mistake at 8th (KHi)
Sep 23, 2009 5:47 PM #
Jagge:
Yes, about 20 s faster. Doesn't loko like it.

Parallel mistake at #8. It took 75 secs.
Sep 23, 2009 5:48 PM #
A.Le Coq:
That was about 1"
Sep 23, 2009 5:49 PM #
Jagge:
TTu (Tuxi) is doing fine. Let's see, maybe he booms second last as usual :)
Sep 23, 2009 5:50 PM #
A.Le Coq:
No way. I trust on tuxi
Sep 23, 2009 5:58 PM #
A.Le Coq:
FC Lahti-JJK 3-1!
Sep 23, 2009 6:04 PM #
A.Le Coq:
11th-12th: KHi was 30 s slower than TTu. KHi struggled in green, tuxi flied on rocks.
Sep 30, 2009 4:37 PM #
Jagge:
We are online again. I believe we have 6 or 7 runners online tonight.

Map accuracy is quite bad at start/finish but rest of the course should be fine, I hope.
Oct 7, 2009 3:51 PM #
Jagge:
Mass start in about 15 minutes.
Oct 14, 2009 3:50 PM #
Jagge:
live gps thing starting again. This is also Lahti district night champs.
Oct 14, 2009 4:12 PM #
A.Le Coq:
watching tonight's show from the hospital (again).
Oct 14, 2009 4:48 PM #
Jagge:
Jagge is running, so it's Minna commenting here...
KLe is making an odd mistake on 5th control. Well, now he found it.
Oct 14, 2009 4:50 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Hi Minna, KHi did also a little "misdirection" near 5th
Oct 14, 2009 4:50 PM #
Jagge:
And KHi is now leading with 4.30 minutes. I guess it was Krisse's aim to beat Hirppa so let's see how this go.
Oct 14, 2009 4:51 PM #
A.Le Coq:
KHi is bumming 10th badly
Oct 14, 2009 4:52 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Soccer from Hamburg: Germany-Finland 0-1, after first 45min
Oct 14, 2009 4:52 PM #
Jagge:
Yes, that area before 5th doesn't look easy, especially when it's dark.
Oct 14, 2009 4:54 PM #
Jagge:
KLe has still a chance to beat Hirppa - Hirppa made quite a big mistake on 10th.
Oct 14, 2009 4:56 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Hirppa's mistake at 10th cp was over 6 min.
Oct 14, 2009 4:58 PM #
A.Le Coq:
KLe did 7th nicely
Oct 14, 2009 4:59 PM #
Jagge:
Let's see if Krisse will find that one.

I mut say that the course looks quite nice!
Oct 14, 2009 4:59 PM #
Jagge:
Now my watching ends - Topias calling.
Oct 14, 2009 5:06 PM #
Shrek:
shy voice from the background: what? no live commentary here? Did I split the screen for nothing...
Oct 14, 2009 5:10 PM #
A.Le Coq:
They have commentator (Jorkka) on-site. Next time we'll send his voice signal to internet...
Allthough Juha has some problems with wlan, and that's why we have no live results. Aggregate power.
Oct 14, 2009 5:12 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Shrek, did u notice, JLe (juuso) went to 9th instead of 1st.
Numbers...
Oct 14, 2009 5:13 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Correction: looks like juuso is running B course.
At start list he was at A course.
Oct 14, 2009 5:14 PM #
Shrek:
You got me wrong... I was referring to your conversations. As I have no idea who is who it helps to have the conversation here - at least I know who to follow more closely...
Oct 14, 2009 5:17 PM #
A.Le Coq:
KLe=Kristian Leppänen, KHi=Kimmo Hirvonen, JLe=Juuso Lehtinen, TAh=Timo Ahvenainen
Oct 14, 2009 5:17 PM #
Shrek:
Thanks. I knew KHi, but the others were just letters...
Oct 14, 2009 5:18 PM #
A.Le Coq:
'Draw start line' - 'Draw split line'
function is nice. You can measure splits almost online.
Oct 14, 2009 5:20 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Yes, we have so long starting list tonight (great!) that finding those initials is not easy.
Oct 14, 2009 5:21 PM #
Shrek:
But only 4 online all night? O r will there be others?
Oct 14, 2009 5:22 PM #
A.Le Coq:
For example Timo (TAh) did 1st cp 0:30 faster than KHi.
Oct 14, 2009 5:23 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Only 4 tonight, I guess. Few more guys have equipment, but are not on the line.
Oct 14, 2009 5:23 PM #
Shrek:
Yup, I have my own split line set between 6 and 7.
Oct 14, 2009 5:24 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Maybe we will see JRy tonight. Mr. GadgetMan.
Oct 14, 2009 5:24 PM #
Shrek:
Thats too bad. This is almost the next best thing...Sitting on the sofa and watching colored dots...My wife thinks I'm nuts.
Oct 14, 2009 5:25 PM #
A.Le Coq:
You can do several split analyses. Every leg you want.
Oct 14, 2009 5:25 PM #
Shrek:
Oh, Jagge is there. Ah, so someones said above.
Oct 14, 2009 5:26 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Yes, this is crazy. But it is great to see those dots moving (or standing) and think what the guys are doing and thinking just now.
Oct 14, 2009 5:28 PM #
A.Le Coq:
JLe big problems near 7th..
Oct 14, 2009 5:28 PM #
Shrek:
Damn. That's a big one...
Oct 14, 2009 5:33 PM #
Miikka:
I guess JLe has problems to locate himself...
Oct 14, 2009 5:34 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Over 8 min now. And it continues...
Oct 14, 2009 5:43 PM #
A.Le Coq:
TAh saved JLe...
ok, JLe was aiming to south before that.
Oct 14, 2009 5:45 PM #
Miikka:
I think JLe saved TAh who was heading too much north
Oct 14, 2009 5:45 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Maybe :)
Oct 14, 2009 5:48 PM #
A.Le Coq:
JLe continues bravely. He indeed has A course, only different gaffling. It was a mistake when he went to 9th before 1st.
Oct 14, 2009 5:54 PM #
A.Le Coq:
approximate results TAh 37:15, KLe 51:25, KHi 52:35,
according split line function

A.Le Coq:
I guess that's all. Jagge dns.
Oct 14, 2009 5:56 PM #
A.Le Coq:
but let's not forget JLe in the forest. Not very straight route to 8th.
Oct 14, 2009 6:37 PM #

I was running just like Minn wrote. I did training headlamp run from home :)
Oct 14, 2009 6:58 PM #

Oct 21, 2009 12:13 PM #
Jagge:
Mass start tonight at 18:30 Finnish summer time (GMT+3). GPS tracking can be seen live as usual, here. This will be second last session of the season.

There has been some sort of web live gps tracking attempt in all Yökuppi races since January 2008. This will be 43rd live session.
Oct 21, 2009 3:15 PM #
Jagge:
And now 15 minutes to start, they seem to be warming up.

Oct 28, 2009 1:43 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Maybe 7 of them will be tracked. Let's see at the evening.
Oct 28, 2009 2:58 PM #
Hirppa:
There might be even online results from this evening. Unfortunately it would include only the time in the finish but none of the less it would yet another treat for all you sofa orienteers.
Just remember that the LIVE-dots are several minutes late.
Oct 28, 2009 4:07 PM #
Jagge:
Here we go. 7 runners tracked tonight. Tracking can be seen at same web page as before.
Oct 28, 2009 4:15 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Is that time after TPe min/km?
Oct 28, 2009 4:19 PM #
Jagge:
Yep. Is Tuxi running B course or making shout cut for some other reason?

"Yökurko" MTe is doing just what we can expect from him :)
Oct 28, 2009 4:25 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Tuxi runs B
