Update:

Dear Southwestern Orienteers,

A quick update on next weekend's Anza-Borrego Desert Advanced Orienteering Training two hours east of San Diego. Original announcement below.

We will have three Red/Blue distance courses exploring both the flatter, vegetated desert terrain and the unique slot canyons for which the area is famous.

Saturday: Classic length by Mark Prior
Sunday: Middle length by Andrew Childs
Monday: Classic length by Ethan Childs

Great weather (60's, sunny) and a solid turnout is expected. Both primitive camping and nearby hotels are available.

We have a few slots left, but please let me know before Tuesday if planning to attend before maps are printed.

Yours,

Mark Prior

If you are like me, participating in the annual MLK weekend San Diego Orienteering (SDO) club's event in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is a highlight of the wintertime orienteering schedule. Running across the endless Colorado Desert and navigating complex slot features in balmy weather is a joy unique to our little corner of the world.

As SDO will not be able to host the event this year, I have received permission from both SDO and the State Park rangers to host an Advanced Training event in this area from January 17-19th, 2015. Since this is intended a casual event, we will not be seeking permits, which limits total event attendance to 25 people.

Details:

- Courses offered Sat, Sun, and Mon in a variety of formats pending CS preferences.
- One course per day only. Advanced orienteering training only. No beginners please.
- Red-Blue length/difficulty. Walking a partial course is no problem!
- These will be races, but no punches. GPS tracking encouraged.
- Every attendee will be assigned one basic task based on desire/skill.
- This event is not affiliated with any organization and no insurance or search/rescue will be provided.
- Lodging available in nearby Borrego Springs. No-host camping available within park.

First come, first served.
