White, Yellow, Orange, Red courses

the Western Pennsylvania Orienteering Club (WPOC) is hosting a map and compass orienteering meet at Yellow Creek State Park on Sunday June 7. There will be four courses available: beginner, beginner II, intermediate, advanced. Cost of participation is $6/map. Group or family doing event together with one purchased map, cost is still $6 for entire group/family.

Orienteering is a map-based land navigation outdoor activity, merging both the physical and mental aspect. It can be done individually or in groups, rain or shine, young or old, and at all skill levels. Compasses are available for loan. Free instruction is available on sites by volunteers. Not a mass-start, but staggered starts. Registration and starts can occur anytime within the window of 10:45 AM to 2:00 PM. Courses are closed at 3:30 PM. If desiring to try more than one course, come early so you have time to register and start on a second course.

Driving Directions: To reach the Yellow Creek south shore (Day Use Area), from the junction of US 422 and the north end of PA 259 (8 miles east of Indiana), take route 259 south about one mile to the Day Use Area. Turn right and follow the red and white orienteering signs to parking.

GPS coordinates: 40.571641, -79.022206
