Welcome to the World Super Long Orienteering Championships Newcastle Edition! You've heard of the legendary SLWOC originally held in Sydney encompassing many many urban maps, now try the bush version.
The current course it's 24km in length with short-cut points available throughout the course and a few points with water and possibly food.
The event will be decided through a point score system. There are 7 controls along the way and whoever gets to that control 1st, 2nd and 3rd will get 3, 2 and 1 points. Most of the course will be run in a pack style run with a gentleman's agreement to keep it civil until we get close to the point scoring controls. That said, if you think you've picked a faster route choice, go for it!
For Sydney runners there's the option to stay at BertBennett's apartment where there will be beer. Hunter Valley Champs will be on the day after so it might be worth while staying around and getting 2 events in the one weekend. The start/finish is right near the freeway so super easy access for Sydney runners.
Check out the map we'll be using.
