We honor the films of Joel and Ethan Coen. What do the Coen Brothers’ films have to do with orienteering? Let’s start with the bloodletting as we fight our way through a seemingly endless field of brambles. We voice their titles when we find ourselves lost (O Brother, Where Art Thou?) or when we get entangled in swamp brush (No Country for Old Men). At the end of a long rogaine, when our feet are wet and blistered, we are dehydrated, and we have circled the same acre from every possible angle in a vain effort at finding that damned control, we are reminded of those hapless characters like H.I. (Nicholas Cage) or Jerry Lundegaard (William Macy) and their repeated and futile attempts at out-of-reach goals. And who hasn’t thought of the leg in the woodchipper when their unhelpful partner yabbers away when they are trying to pace count? (“Shut the F*** up, Donny.”) Through the Coen Brothers’ movies we will venture. Control locations will be our mise-en-scène for your viewing pleasure. What else could hurt so much and still be this much fun?
