Scottish Relay Champs.

1st leg NOC team (with Ant and Rich). What a difference a day makes. Really enjoyed this - a lot keener on the planning today and yesterday's faff seemed to clear my mind of general life faff. Brutal pace up the first hill which I tried my best to stick with but soon settled in a pack with Johnannes Felter and others. Was yoyo-ing a bit with various people, no major mistakes apart from a control I'd visited yesterday - all other four people in the pack veered left I thought right but opted for herd mentality. Really really tired by the end.

No complaints from L shin but R knee was quite sore on the warmdown and once finished.

Unfortunately NOC maintained our 100% mp record in EMIT scottish relays (2/2) due to a missing punch on a last control, we rather entertainingly sifted through all the bricks to find the card from the pile but the back up punches didn't seem quite in the right place. Reinforced my view that EMIT is such a clunky system.

Warm down round the queen's gardens... kudos to whoever managed to secure permission to Balmoral :-)

Scottish Ind Champs, Balmoral.

Hmmm. Less said about this the better. Started OK but then lost a lot of time looking for what I thought was a bit of a bingo control (slightly bigger pine in amongst smaller pines), then had a bit of a tantrum that my 2 year old nephew would have been proud of. Plodded, meandered and walked to #9 then tried to restart. Started enjoying it from then but quickly became dehydrated and resorted to a trudge by the end.

Just couldn't get my head in gear and really wasn't keen on the middle distance planning style. Ended up 4th due to lots of other retirements and 10 seconds down on 3rd, which will teach me for my major faffing in the early part of the course. Lovely forest though and looking forward to another crack at it on Sunday.
