Dunnerdale fells and Caw with broken Tom and lethargic Ted. Kind of wanted to do more but Tom was struggling to run on the flat, never mind any kind of climb.

Turner Landscape - 23rd

Legs feeling good in the warm up. Solid start up the track running alongside Ben. Felt like we working hard but not too hard. Sav came flying past about half way up the track. Wanted to go with but didn't have it in me. Hit the bottom of the fell climb and hoped I could start working with Ben. Ran up to the steep section and then had to walk. Ben moved away and I struggled my way to the top. Matt, Nath and Sav miles ahead now. Started working slightly better with Pez, Jardine and Billy Matlock towards the top but that first climb was pretty much the race and I'd let big gaps go to those I'd like to be around. Moved past Pez and worked with Jardine and Billy to close down a big group just ahead up to Swirl.

Legs were starting to work now and we closed in on the group fairly quickly. Then came the standard ankle twister which knocked me back a little and Jardine got away. Got some water from Rich at the bottom of Brim Fell and moved past Thomas Corrigan as I tried to cling onto the group. Steve Franklin caught me just before the Old Man and moved away fairly effortlessly. Got a drink off Owens and saw the chasing pack behind with Mark Roberts, Stead and Watson tucked in behind. Nailed the line to the col overtaking Gav Muhulland and Steve Halsall and catching back up with Franklin. We tapped out a good rhythm up Dow and went past a sorry looking Matthew. Started on the traverse with a few to aim at but this was all about leg speed and way to runnable for me and Franklin soon moved away. Held position to the top of White Pike but had lost considerable time on the group ahead. Hit the descent hard regardless and made some good inroads down to Walna Scar. The flat drag halted progress slightly but the next section of descent was technical and I managed to get a mincing Little Rob and Shaun Godsman and close right in on Mario and Franklin. Just ran out of descent before I got the latter two.

Salvaged a bad race and surprised to be that high up the results. Felt like a mid-30 run at best. We ran the first climb in training considerably faster the two other times we reccied this year. Not my finest race and felt like I had much more to give but 23rd is considerably better than I've managed for two years so I'll take it. Great turnout from the boys today and claimed yet another 4th place.
