7 AM

Road Running warm up/down 17:05 [2] 3.16 km (5:24 / km) +70m 4:52 / km

Warm up along the river and a bit of uphill on the course.

Hill running race 3:15:06 [4] 35.57 km (5:29 / km) +2390m 4:06 / km

Eiger 35K. Good run, felt more comfortable on the climbs than the last year. had a good race with Max most of the way, he ran exactly the same pace on the climbs and flat sections. I pulled away slightly when he stopped to fill a bottle then he caught up and pulled away 30s or so on the first section of the long downhill. Caught him before the bottom then managed to open a big gap on the final 5km with the short uphill, his legs stopped working there. Felt really strong on the last 5km which was good. Fuelling went well with around 340g of carb. Was quite hot but managed to soak my hat often and stay cool. it was only the last 2km that was bad. Was about 6' faster than last time.

Easy run around the flatter roads in town with hill sprints towards the end. Legs feeling ok, would have preferred flatter gravel to run on but wasn't anything within reach. Felt good on the hill sprints too. Felt hot in the sun.

Road Running 16:01 [2] 3.13 km (5:07 / km) +50m 4:44 / km

Short easy jog to loosen off. Had to get down to the presentation of elite runners so kept it short. Was roasting hot as well. Felt fine.

Thursday Jul 18 #

11 AM

Hill running 1:17:38 [2] 12.72 km (6:06 / km) +710m 4:46 / km

Run on the race course from Mannlichen to Eiger Gletscher then a short section on the trail under the north face and back. Cut the run a bit short as I was starving and didn't want to hammer the quads. Felt pretty good on the run, noticed the altitude on the last bit of uphill but felt ok otherwise. Perfect day.
