Arnside Knott fell race-2nd +8s
Thought this would be an ideal way to get some running form and test how the fitness would hold up on my first running race in 3 years.
First climb out the start felt good and moved up to 2nd behind a guy from Rugby and just put the effort in to stay with to the top. First descent was super steep and I got a small gap into the flat road section down near the coast. Then spent the majority of the main climb trying but failing to extend the gap. Went we got to the super steep section he came alongside then set the pace to the trig. Think this was where we both realised he was the stronger runner. 3rd climb was pretty short so nothing major but on the descent down back to the sea the legs started to go. We held a fast pace (for me) to the bottom of the final climb which was the same track as the first descent. Was an absolute brute 3 sections of super steep walls then a real drag to top. First two walls we were side by side then the final one he really turned the screw and all the way up the drag I was just hanging by a thread to his ankles. Knew if I could just get to the top I would put myself in with a chance of winning but if I was dropped there was no chance of beating him. By some miracle got to the top with him but had put my legs way beyond their capacity and just had no power left to get down the hill. He was just able to hold a quicker speed down and took the win.
Perhaps I could’ve won if i was a bit fresher but still pretty pleased with that and showed the cross training is definitely working
