2 weeks into a proper training block...

50miles last week, and the week before. Logged 160km for August thus far. Roughly working out as 7-7.5hr weeks. A significant jump from an previous loads, but felt I've had the capacity to manage this for a while now.

Warriston Reps yesturday. Wet conditions. 6x3mins (90s) followed by 4x1min (30s!).

Did well on the minute reps, but wasn't able to find a gear for the 6mins. Started slow (~3:40 avg), and slowed by a couple of seconds each rep. Nothing felt off, just the pace wasn't there. Odd because I ran last weeks session much quicker (~3:30 on an 8min rep).

Concluded that I've probably just got used to a level of fatigue with the new training load, so whilst I feel "fresh", I'm probably far from it. Had also missed breakfast (hurried banana 20mins before session!).

A long winded way of explaining why I'm taking a rest day. Decided that today I'll take stock, then tomorrow I'm going to introduce some strides to see if that helps me find some pace. Strides early doors, as part of a 30min run, then over to Holyrood for the Carnethy session in the evening.

Tapering for Kingsley 5k next week. So nothing hard after tomorrow, and properly easing off after the weekend. With a second set of strides on race day- race is 7pm so I can do them in the morning.

Kingsley is an obvious opportunity for a PB. Huge depth of field, with winning times close to sub-14. But got to keep in mind it's early into training cycle, and it might be too soon to expect results. Sri Chinmoy 5k a few weeks after will be a great opportunity to rebound. And all of this should get me into great shape for Loch Ness 10k towards the end of September.
