Road biking 4:48:00 [3] 126.0 km (26.3 kph) +2600m
shoes: S3

Over Litdalvegen and back, pretty much all gravel. Pretty loose in places but generally fairly smooth and minimal washboards <3 straight off into the climb so slow start but feeling excellent once warmed up. 20’ steady into 35’ hard followed by efforts on all the kickers up top all decent feeling. Had a slight scare going down when entering a tunnel at 30 only to discover that it had zero lighting and a 180degree bend, had to walk for a bit as the phone torch did approximately fuck all, so was very happy to tailgate a car for the second half. Long efforts fairly controlled and legs feeling primo. Again just a magic number but the same calc applied ~360w for the 35’

Road biking 3:36:00 [2] 101.0 km (28.1 kph) +900m
shoes: S3

Bit tired so took it properly chill. The ‘Atlantic road’ is definitely up there as one of the most underwhelming tourist attractions every visited. Found a nice lil climb to make up for it. Hot and sunny all day, nice.

Friday Jul 12 #

Road biking 4:52:00 [2] 153.0 km (31.4 kph) +1600m
shoes: S3

Easyish round the peninsula north of Ålesund, speed somewhat boosted by the wind. First shorts ride in a disappointing number of days but all the more appreciated for it. Lefse and solo for lunch.

Thursday Jul 11 #

Down to the car

Wednesday Jul 10 #

Running 1:00:00 [2] 6.0 km (10:00 / km)

Into Vakkerstoylen, back and knee not massively chuffed with the bag but nothing catastrophic 14.5k 1200m 3:20h

Road biking 1:05:00 [4] 13.2 km (12.2 kph) +1300m
shoes: S3

Hard effort up Juvashytta. While it may look reassuringly like 13k@10% it is in fact more like 11k@12% with some flat sections so yeah, tough. Started feeling the altitude up top (1900) not much but still had a little something left in the legs so pacing kinda bang on. Strava magicing up a 340w stat for this which I would certainly be happy with if true but shall take it with a rather large grain of salt

Road biking 13:20 [3] 13.2 km (59.4 kph)
shoes: S3

And back down post hill, all going brilliantly until the first corner. Hadn’t quite figured that the bumps, and there were a lot of large bumps would affect grip so locked the rear up a rather high speed. recovered nicely but as a consequence I went straight on and into the ditch, no harm done. Pretty excellent from here on down, just missed 100 on one of the straights. All good fun

Running 1:00:00 [2] 5.0 km (12:00 / km)

Up Galdhøe from juvas, almost 2300m. hard work breaking trail through snow for a lot of it but some banging views and quite happy not to be queuing on the big boy next door 10k 600m 2:30h

Running 1:00:00 [2] 3.0 km (20:00 / km)

Does this count as a quadruple? Or are the cycles combined and walking excluded is so then just a boring single. Into Tjonnebu, 7k 600m 1:45h started late~9pm absolutely knackered post drive by the time we even started

Road biking 20:00 [2] 9.5 km (28.5 kph) +100m

Road biking 4:36:00 [2] 114.0 km (24.8 kph) +2700m
shoes: S3

Over Sognefjellet and back. Descent to the west would be heavenly on a clear day, unfortunately this was not. First couple k had ~30m visibility and lots of practically stationary traffic to weave through, much more fun once I broke through the cloud. Wet, bumpy, high speed sheep filled hairpins really keeping things interesting. Struggled on the first half of the climb back up but gradually felt better and better until I could properly attack the top. Maybe sat around for too long eating too many boller at coop. No sleet up top second time round and the sun even came out for the 2nd half of the eastern descent. Views of glaciers and fjords for most of it, one of the roads of all time.
