Wednesday Dec 12 #

Note
(rest day)

Knee is too sore to do anything. Hopefully I'll be able to do something tomorrow.

Tuesday Dec 11 #

10 AM

Running 1:06:07 [3] 14.5 km (4:34 / km) +11m 4:33 / km
ahr:147 max:211

Started happy to be out. Finished miserable. Knee was really bothersome today. Normally never hurts while physically running. But today was bad. By the end I could really tell I'd not run any kind of mileage I should be putting in. Pulled out of running Black this weekend. Bit miffed, but at least it's now and not next summer. Easy to Threshold around Hermann.

Monday Dec 10 #

1 PM

Running 33:25 [3] 6.77 km (4:56 / km)
ahr:130 max:144

Very easy to Rice. Knee is ok.

Sunday Dec 9 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Tendonitis and a party next door in the hotel nixed any racing today. Definitely a good choice. Took the girls to Golden Gate, Ocean Beach and Fort Funston (San Andreas Fault). Been hobbling all day even after pills.

Saturday Dec 8 #

Orienteering 18:13 [3] 3.01 km (6:03 / km)

Round 1 Sprint. Fast hilly course. Loved it. One mistake 45 secs? Lost height going through a broken fence and didn't realise. Looked for it to my left. It was on the right.
3rd place 1mins 30secs behind 1st and 2nd.

Note
(injured)

Got tendonitis in patellar tendon. May bail on tomorrow's races and take girls to Golden Gate. It's so uncomfortable I'm going to struggle to sleep. Other than that I feel pretty good.
NB. Funny that Control 5 on Race 2 was placed 10' from my niece's swim team tent today. Haven't seen her in 6 years (we were planning on visiting her later that evening in Pleasanton). I found out 30 mins before race 3 and took the girls to see their Cuz. Small world.
12 PM

Orienteering 19:21 [3] 3.05 km (6:20 / km) +42m 5:56 / km
ahr:149 max:174

Controversy!! A very slow (couldn't go through the gears) but clean run. I was really pleased even though I felt slow. But then I was DQ'd on the last control because it was mapped as uncrossable green, but it was in plain sight on the approach. There was a huge break in the hedge which revealed its location. (And I never noticed the green feature on the map). Anyway I was ready to bail early to see my sister-in-law when I was reinstated, with a 20sec penalty. Most others had apparently done the same.
That moved me from 3rd....to last.....to 5th. 3mins behind the winner.

Regardless of the mistake. If I was DQ'd which I've no complaints about, that was a good run for me on that technical area.
2 PM

Orienteering 30:05 [3] 4.21 km (7:09 / km) +58m 6:42 / km
ahr:153 max:167

A race too far. Mistake after mistake. All over the place. Really couldn't get to grips with controls on different levels. Made the Final but came last 15 mins behind the winner.
Not too frustrated as I've learnt a ton. Never ran forking before or the level thing. The map was way harder than any sprint map I've been on before. Really enjoyable.

Note
(rest day)

Seemed to have rolled my ankle yesterday. Nothing terrible but it's in the background.
